3.0 out of 5 stars Telling Christina Goodbye
Lurlene McDaniel is my favorite author, and I love her work. I was a little disapointed with "Telling Christina Goodbye" though. I don't think that the idea is original, mainly because I didn't really know the charecters well enough to root for them. I didn't think that this book is as good as most of Lurlene's, although you may feel differently. Even though this book...

Telling Christina Goodbye is the story of three teens, Trisha, Cody and Tucker, struggling to move on through senior year after their lives are changed one night in a fatal accident leading to the death of their close friend Christina. Tucker Hanson, Christina's demanding boyfriend, was driving the four of them home one night when his car hit a patch of black-ice and over-turned killing Christina, leaving Cody in a coma, injuring Trisha, but barely sratching Tucker. Trisha struggles to remeber the detials of that horrifying night, but can't. Was it really an accident? Will they find the will to move on? Telling Christina Goodbye will keep you keep you turning the page again and again! This is must read!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, April 1, 2006
This review is from: Telling Christina Goodbye (Mass Market Paperback)
Telling Christina Goodbye is one of those books that you cry while your reading it. It made me realize just how short life really is. Lurlene has a way of making you ask yourself what kind of life you really want to live. I loved this book and couldn't put it down. Read it it will change your life forever.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Telling Christina Goodbye (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is a very sad. Christina is a very happy girl. She was happy all the time. One example is that Christina got put down, but she kept her head up. She never felt bad or she blew everything bad that happened over.

Christina would never be a girl that was mad or sad. She always was happy. One day she was driving home from the basketball game with her friends and something happened. You should read the book and find out. It is a great book. You should read it. It is very sad. Christina has her very own personality.

This is a great book for anyone to read that likes stories about young girls that have trouble in life.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good book about teen death, June 22, 2003

I just read this book, after ordering it for my classroom (I like to preview what's in my classroom library before making it available). This book hits the nail on the head: How do teens go on with their lives when one of their friends dies?

This story hit close to home for me, since I lost a good friend while in high school...and we were in a car accident together, just like the characters in this book. I lived, he didn't. Like Trisha, I had to accept the fact that accidents happen and sometimes not everyone lives. We all make mistakes, it's just how you work through them that makes you a better, stronger person and helps you to grow.

I can't think of a better book that deals with all of the emotions and quesitons that teens face when a peer dies. This author definitely knows her stuff and I would gladly recommend this book (and most of her others) to the teens in my classroom. It is high on detail (the senory details in the accident scene were excellent) and content.

3.0 out of 5 stars Poignant, but lacking depth, December 31, 2009

This book examines how not only young people, but all people, react to the death of someone close to them. That theme was explored well even through mostly two-dimensional characters.

I was bothered by Tucker. He's only eighteen and is showing a lot of the characteristics of an abuser. How he wiggled his way out of all charges when his driving was one of the components in a deadly wreck is beyond me. In the end, he gets to crawl away and live his life, which feels less than fair considering the type of behavior he's displayed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book, November 10, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Telling Christina Goodbye (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is a very moving and touching story about the much loved Christina getting killed in a car accident. This is a great book for kids to read for the understanding of importance that is for safe driving. The characters thoughts and feelings were relateable and I couldn't help crying on some parts.
I would really recommend this to anyone.

Telling Christina Goodbye by Lurlene McDaniel is a great book. I would almost say it is my favorite, but all of the books by her are really good. I have loved all the ones I have read. Trisha and Christina have been friends for the longest time. Trisha's boyfriend, Cody, is great and always there to support her. Tucker, Christina's boyfriend isn't that way though. He makes her cry a lot, and treats her really bad. After being kicked out of a basketball game on a cold, icy night, in the neighboring town for Tucker's behavior, they end up getting in a car crash. Tucker walks away without a scratch. Cody is in a coma. Trisha is extremely sore. Christina is dead! Now Trisha, who was planing on going to college with her best friend and her boy friend, has to get through life without both of them. It will be hard, but it shows how it is possible to get through on your own

5.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT BOOK! NEED I SAY MORE?, September 19, 2005
This review is from: Telling Christina Goodbye (Mass Market Paperback)
Telling Cristina Goodbye is a great but sad story of 4 friends, Trisha Thompson, Christina Eckloe, Cody McIntire, and Tucker Hanson. Christina is often crying about her boyfriend, Tucker, who Trisha and Cody, her boyfriend, hates because he is rude and mean to Chrissy. It seems like a normal night when the four seniors drive to a basketball game, untill Tucker starts a fight and they get kicked out. On the way home, something terrible happens: the car hits a patch of ice, and Tucker is the only one wearing his seatbelt. The turnout is horrible, Tucker has a few scratches, Trisha is minorly injured, but Cody is in a coma, and Christina is dead. This book shows how two 'enimies' cope after two of the people they care about aren't there. Between Mr. Eckloe throwing Tucker out of the funeral home, to a bad speech, to Cody forgetting about him and his life with Trisha, the characters have many bups in the road to recovery. Based on the true story of three kids, Nathan, Megan, and Andy.
