Editorial Reviews

To be honest, we don't really know too much about The Bad Machines. All we know is we love their album. It has a little bit of everything, (which we like), from car-crash lyrics to heart-wrenching break up songs, which all goes towards makes it one of those records you want to play again as soon as it's ended. In the blink of a track, the little-girl vocals flip from gorgeous shimmering sweetness to harsh shouty noise, and the giddy keys, driving drum machines and energetic guitars produce a grand noise that's somewhere between bitter-sweet and just plain bitter. It may sound like a cliché, but this album is a grower. On first listen, you think you know which songs are the big hitters, but subsequent listens reveal layers, textures and aural awakenings that sneak up and surprise you. It's a swirling mix of lush arrangements, swooping harmonies and electronic blips, and somehow it all comes together to make a glorious mélange that will stay on your stereo for longer than you expect.---Imported from the UK by Listening-Post.com

This review is from: Telling Lies (Audio CD)
The Bad Machines are a cool new band. I have heard a little bit of this
record a year ago and it sounded really exciting. I was looking forward to the
release. The band is Paul Scott and Michelle Margherita. They are based in Sydney,
Australia and Brixton, England. They have been playing a lot in the UK. They
are going to play Japan soon. They mix electro and rock music. "Two Heads" is
an upbeat song. They are a little like bands The Lovemakers and Client.
"South Coast" is like a mix between Ladytron and Saint Etienne. By the third song
The Bad Machines really hit their stride. "Does It Ever Really Happen?"
combines folk music and sounds totally original. "Schadenfreude" has an indie rock
feel about it. The Bad Machines just have an appealing sound overall. The
music seems really complex and controlled. Michelle Margherita's helium vocals are
a perfectly cool component. "Kidz" is more of a punk song. More people
should know about this record. It's excellent.
