5.0 out of 5 stars Self Against City's "Telling Secrets To Strangers"-Get Your Copy TODAY!!, January 9, 2007

"Telling Secrets To Strangers" is the debut album from the Sacramento pop rock band Self Against City. Self Against City's first EP was released on Rushmore Records in 2005 titled "Take It How You Want It", but "Telling Secrets To Strangers" will definetly take the band's reputation to a whole new level. For the most part, this album is made up of catchy songs with infectious choruses that will have you singing along and dancing to the music such as "Becoming A Monster", "Ready And Willing", and "Disappearing Act". If you're a fan of happy, upbeat music, this album is a must have. Of course, in addition to those poppy songs we all love, there are a few slower songs such as "Smooth Silver", "Yours Isn't The First", and "Back To Our Innocence". Every component of every song is perfectly composed to make a beautiful album that will impact everyone it reaches in a very positive way. I reccommend picking up this album to anyone who loves a great pop rock album to listen to in the car, at home, at work, or anytime of the day.

Self Against City is my personal selection for "Most Underrated Band of 2007". Amazing vocal talent and so-catchy-it-hurts choruses carry this album above and beyond what you would expect from a band you've never heard of. There's not a single song to skip on this cd and you'll find yourself singing along fairly quickly. SAC blend fast paced pop-punk with slow, sincere jams effortlessly and beautifully. Get this disc asap, and you can thank me later.

PS: Come on, guys, when's the new cd coming out???

I had gotten it a few weeks before Christmas even though it came out before that and I realized I should have gotten it when it was released. 5.0 out of 5 stars Self Against City - Telling Secrets to Strangers, February 19, 2007
By
Self Against City first caught my eye when I heard the song Speechless, off their first EP. I was a huge fan of this song, and went on to buy the EP which was great. So now they have their first full length, and they are picking up right where they left off, and give Drive Thru Records yet another great pop punk CD.
The CD starts off with the track Becoming A Monster - one of my favorite on it, and it also happens to be the single. If you want to get a good vibe on this band, listen to this song, it should be being played all over the radio. The next four tracks are as catchy as the opening, and then it goes into my favorite track on the CD - Disappearing Act. This song makes the album in my opinion, and as if the rest of the CD wouldn't convince you to buy it, this song will.
The back half of the CD brings the tempo down with some slower paced songs, still executed with the catchy hooks you expect from a band like this. Lots of people will say they don't do anything different, but let me tell you, they write and perform some of the catchiest pop punk you will hear in a while, and I recommend going and seeing them when they are in your town. Two thumbs up, get this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars For fans of Spitalfield or Cartel check this band out, February 8, 2007

This band is a refreshing burst of originality and sheer talent for the pop punk scene. In a genre that's becoming more and more nit-picked and subcategorized, it's nice to see a band just do what they do and do it well. This band understands the scene and writes songs that hit way too close to home like "Ready and Willing" which describes how band boys will treat girls nice and make them fall in love with them just to screw them over. It's weird that a band can understand this so completely. Their single "Becoming a Monster" is so catchy that it should be illegal. Definitely check this band out. They will be big this year.
