Telling Time After Reading Through Once!,
By Mama to 4 "mrsotto" (Frederick, MD United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Telling Time: How to Tell Time on Digital and Analog Clocks! (Paperback)
Our almost 6 year old has been wanting to be able to tell time for the past year. We've tried many different manipulatives with not much luck past the o'clocks and X:30. After reading this book just once, she's now actually telling time on analog clocks. It's slow going, but she really gets it now. Our daughter LOVES the poem at the end. It also covers calendar time - from one day to a millenium. The book is VERY interactive in the way it's written when the parent reads to the child. My only complaint is that it's never explained about what hour it is when the hour hand is between numbers or almost on the next number.

This is a very colorful and detailed book. I would say this book is more for 6-9 year olds...written a little wordy but does get the point across. Takes a while to read at night to my 5 year old - and to keep him concentrated on it.

It is a good book to help teach kids the concept of time. However, it is a little too much information for my 2 yr old. However, he still enjoys the book when I read it to him, and it is nice that it shows the difference between digital and analog clocks. I know once we have been working with it for a while, he will get the concept. He loves clocks, so he loves the book.

Who needs to learn to read a digital clock?,

Now, this book is a waste of money. Just buy the plastic clock and take some time with your child, grandchild or class. It's not rocket science. I know most clocks nowadays are digital, however, once you learn to read an analog clock, digital comes naturally. Do you really need to know what time it is when a digital clock actually says 10:46? What time do you think it is 2:00? Save your money, just buy the clock and learn to interect with your child.
