Voldemars Vechi was one of the youngest Latvians to attain officer status in the Czarist Cavalry. But the Great World War sparked to life with the consummation of young heroes, the Russian Empire was imploding at the seams, the Latvian populous was clamoring for independence, the German military continued to ravage his own country, and Voldemars had yet to come to grips with his father's desire that he return home.Set at the brink of World War I, Telmenu Saimnieks unfolds as a strongly character-based family saga that follows Voldemars and his wife, Otilija through the world that was falling apart around them. As the World War concludes, Voldemars returns to become a patriot for his country, and to resolve his position in his father's heart.

About the Author
Gunti Goncarovs has studied Latvia and family history for over twenty years, sparked by his parents and grandparents stories of the old country. He has returned to his homeland on several occassions to see the land which so consumes his attention. Educated in chemistry, Gunti enjoys plotting out his ancestoral lineage. Gunti presently lives in North Carolina, with his wife and three daughters.

The Lord of Telmeni is a compelling, richly told tale full of all the romance and anguish of history. The best kind of saga and this is only part one! This is a book you don't want to leave.

I found Telmenu Saimnikies totally captivating. The wartime setting gives the story a feeling that keeps you hanging on every word. I was impressed with the strength of each character and the entire storyline. The joys and sorrows of the families involved make the story feel like it could be happening today. Latvian history was totally new to me and I feel the author did a wonderful job of describing the region as it was in the early 1900's. It is a great book for people who enjoy excellent family stories and war history buffs too!
