5.0 out of 5 stars 2005 Writers Notes Book Award Notable
A writer who can make you overlook the tentative aspects of his story and keep reading to the end is a writer to watch. Paul Black's engaging prose promises big things for the future.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Filled with trite, soap opera dialogue and your obligatory love story. Even the technological descriptions are vague and boring. I got burned out on Dean Koontz after his book's characters all started to sound the same. This guy is a poor man's Dean Koontz. There is nothing about the story, dialogue, or background that makes this book worthy of the claims on the cover.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book - look forward to more!, April 12, 2004
This review is from: The Tels (Paperback)
As a fan of the cyberpunk genre, I fell in love with the world, the variety of people and the humanity of the protagonist. The author, Paul Black, has a unique take on the technological advancement of the world. He weaves technology into the story without making it the linchpin. His characters and their unique powers take center stage while the technology of the world provides depth to the scenery.

This was a fun to book to read and has high a reread factor in my humble opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars The story of a man's struggle as he comes to terms with his humanity and his destiny, September 12, 2005
This review is from: The Tels (Paperback)
It's 2101 and a revolution has broken out. "Biolution" has unleashed a flood of technologies which have changed almost every aspect of life. Unfortunately that also includes, with the development of the "Bioweapon", a new tool for terrorism. Jonathan Kortel is a man with an unusual ability that is sought after by two rival factions of a secret group called the Tels, each of which approach him out of the shadows of government. Kortel's telekinesis will change his life, and could possibly save the world from itself. A riveting science fiction novel by a gifted author, Paul Black's The Tels is the story of a man's struggle as he comes to terms with his humanity and his destiny in a world that could well be upon us within a generation. Winner of the 2005 Writer's Digest Book Awards (and a finalist in the Independent Publisher's Book Awards", The Tels would prove a popular addition to any community library Science Fiction collection and documents Paul Black as an imaginatively skilled storyteller of the first order. Also very highly recommended is the newly published second volume in the Tels series, Soulware (0972600728, $16.95) which continues the adventures of Jonathan Kortel in the world of tomorrow.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! Author's first novel is a grand slam!!, August 14, 2003
This review is from: The Tels (Paperback)
Debut novel? Mr. Black writes like a seasoned veteran. He has opened the door to a whole new world, a world that could very well exist today. What a great story! The human mind is one of the most formidable weapons on Earth, and through The Tels, you can nearly feel the power first hand. I couldn't put it down. I was sucked in by the telekinetics of it all. Bring on Soulware!

By A Customer
This review is from: The Tels (Paperback)
"The Tels is like no other book I've ever read. It's the first story to posture telekinetics in a way that's unique and chillingly real...part X-Files, part cyber-thriller, it's sure to become a cult classic." Joe Goodwin, Gracie Films

This review is from: The Tels (Paperback)
"As a debut novel it's impressive work. You can totally visualize the action from start to finish...the ending takes you completely by surprise. Paul Black writes fiction with a style and edge you'd expect from a writer with a dozen books under his belt...bravo!" Margie Bowles, 1400 Words
