5.0 out of 5 stars Have Fun -- Will Work!
This is hilarious!!

Not only is temping the best way to make a living, as I've now found out, but this is the best way to learn about it! It's super funny, but it also goes through all the steps one-by-one. I brought it with me to the job interview with certain pages marked and it kept me in the right frame of mind before I interviewed -- and I aced it! I've been...

3.0 out of 5 stars Too cute for its own good
Hasset has some unbelieveably good and comforting things to say. I'm temping in New York right now and, after reading the book, feel much better about it.

The humor, however, was too much: humor should be a spice to delicately flavor instead of a sauce to drown.

Too many asides: too many jabs in the ribs and knowing winks. Get on with it already!

Some segments...

I've been working ever since. I still carry it around with me in my bag like a dog-eared security blanket!

Anyway, if you have any doubts at all about temping, this will alleviate them and get you working immediately. Or at least it did for me!

Write on!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a must read for anyone in the temping industry., June 8, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Temp Survival Guide: How to Prosper As an Economic Nomad of the Nineties (Paperback)
This is the most entertaining book I've picked up with the objective of learning something. I temped for two years and I was laughing my way through the entire book which I read in two busrides on the way to my temp assignment. I saw a young man who had just finished a hard day on a temp assignment as well and I showed him a quote out of Brian Hassett's book that totally cheered him up. I read this book over and over whenever I need to energize for the next day I have to face as a temp. If you haven't read this book and you temp, it's well worth it to spend your lunch hour buying it!

5.0 out of 5 stars So accurate that it's like Dilbert!, March 23, 1998

What struck me the most about the book, is the underlying attitude of temping, and how perfectly it comes through in the writing. Brian has captured the essence of life as a temp, exactly! I've been temping for years, and agree completely with the benefits and advantages of life as a temp, and now I pass copies of this book on to anyone I know who comes to me complaining about their full-time job.

Some segments were so downright poorly written and confusing I had to go back and read them two times to figure out what he was getting at.

I did like that he wrote from a temp's view instead of a client's. He understands that there's a lot we'd rather be doing at work than working. He shows how to get around it. It's great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved IT !!! One of the BEST BOOKS (Funniest) I'VE EVER READ, November 4, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Temp Survival Guide: How to Prosper As an Economic Nomad of the Nineties (Paperback)
This book will have you in stitches.

He's got a line in there, "What .. reading a book on temping. What will you read next .. a book on how to catch a bus." Well, it is pretty close to that one.

Don't read this book if you are steadily employed and are thinking about quitting your job .. because the author makes temping sound too appealing and YOU WILL QUIT YOUR JOB!

This is a GREAT BOOK if you FIND YOURSELF IN THIS SITUATION. He sort of skips over some big areas like the fact that despite discrimination laws, clients suggest .. er hint, most of the time they want females (95% of the time) etc. etc. And also the fact that there's a lot of kissing up to get work. If you don't have ace computer skills, a people personality, persistance and the ability to pucker-up .. well then, maybe this isn't the occupation for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and reaffirming !, February 27, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: The Temp Survival Guide: How to Prosper As an Economic Nomad of the Nineties (Paperback)
For those of us living our lives through our imaginations, this book is inspiring and reaffirming. We don't have to plug ourselves into the thirty-five year gold watch career plan, in fact most of couldn't if it was given to us, and nowadays we are more on our own than ever before. Hassett gives us an hilarious tour guide of one of the funkiest income acquisition techniques available. The book is filled with wit, insight, and a fair chunk of zen. Bravo Hassett

5.0 out of 5 stars The Temp Survival Guide is the best guide out there, February 25, 1997

This review is from: The Temp Survival Guide: How to Prosper As an Economic Nomad of the Nineties (Paperback)
This is an incredibly funny and relevant book to the world of temping. Hassett has an uncanny ability to provide relevant information in a humorous way. His guide is worth as much to the permanent employee as it is to the temporary or contract worker. I hope his publishers realize what an incredible writer they've got in their hands! Looking forward to reading more from this author. Albert Kaufma

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly useful for those in-college,& for recent grads!!!, March 13, 1997

This review is from: The Temp Survival Guide: How to Prosper As an Economic Nomad of the Nineties (Paperback)
This guide does a great job of explaining how to successfully temp--and provides some good mantras to repeat to your parents about "why you don't have a real job". The writing is funny & fast, the subjects are well-organized & surprising. As someone who just began temping, this was perfect!!! (particularly the "sex on the temp job" section)!!, p
