About the Author

Barb Zukin, B.S., has worked with the Temperament Program at the Center for Human Development, Inc. in La Grande, Oregon, since 1988 as a Temperament Specialist, and as the program coordinator since 1993. Trained as a special education teacher and nurse, Barb has worked individually and in groups with hundreds of parents of challenging children, helping them find ways to effectively manage their children through the application of temperament concepts. She was a member of the team which created the parenting curriculum, Temperament Talk. She is responsible for marketing Temperament Talk, conducting trainings for facilitators of the curriculum, and presenting to groups on the theory of temperament and it's application in other areas, including the workplace and schools. Barb is the mother of two spirited teenage daughters.

Barbara Tyler, B.S., is the Prevention Coordinator at the Center for Human Development, Inc. in La Grande, Oregon. Barbara works for a variety of prevention projects including the Temperament Program. She is a member of the temperament team and helped create Temperament Talk products. She provides much of the training for Temperament Talk locally as well as nationally. Barbara has also trained nationally for Developmental Research and Programs, focusing on the risk and protective factors for youth. Barbara has over 25 years experience in parent education and prevention. She is a native of the rural area of Northeastern Oregon and is familiar with special needs of rural families. She has successfully implemented and coordinated many collaborative community programs including Healthy Start. She and her husband are parents of six grown children, both biological and adopted.

Kathy Goodman has worked as a Temperament Specialist for the Center for Human Development, Inc. in La Grande since 1988. She regularly leads classes for parents, provides individualized temperament consultation, and serves as field-testing supervisor and proofreader for newly developed materials. Kathy trains in use of the curriculum with groups. Kathy and her husband are parents of five daughters. Her passion is for helping families grow strong and healthy.

Lyndall Shick, M.A. has worked with emotionally disturbed children, victims of domestic and sexual abuse, elderly people, and families with challenging children. As a counselor at the Center for Human Development in La Grande, Oregon, Ms.Shick has helped design a temperament-based parenting program now in use nationwide. She is also a step-mother and has two step-grandsons. Ms.Shick's experience with people from all walks of life points out loud and clear that, yes, everyone is different and their temperament differences fall along predictable lines.
