Product Description

The Tempest Gabriel Trumpet has a spirit for exceptional acoustic properties, ease of performance, flawless mechanics, and impeccable beauty. The Tempest Gabriel Bb Trumpet is a work of sculpture.Start with the one-piece bell is made of complete Goldbrass for uniform resonance and superior tone. Then, Tempest uses a one-piece Goldbrass leadpipe (with Focal Direct Receiver) that has an optimum taper to allow for superb intonation. Perfectly rounded tubing allows for less turbulence and a smooth airflow in the Gabriel design. All three of the valves use hand lapped Monel Valves, which are as quick as possible and will never need replacement. If this were not enough, the Tempest Gabriel Model is completely Silver Plated with Gold plated trim. This makes for a trumpet with more power, better control, and richer sound. This Tempest trumpet comes in a fitted beautiful hard case with 2 mouthpieces. It comes with a 5-year warranty for the entire instrument. Constructed to provide generations with superb performance, a stunning sound, precise pitch and mechanical dependability - the Tempest Gabriel is unique in its field. We have been getting unusually large amount of rain in my area, Louisiana, and frequently my off time indoors is passed by surfing the Internet. I came across this review by "Sage" and I did want to comment on my own experiences with my personal Tempest Trumpet, and the Tempest Company.

I am a professional free-lance trumpet player in the Louisiana "New Orleans Metro Area". My skill set varies across several genera's of musical style, and I usually work 3 to 5 nights a week and I travel quite a bit. The assumption that the Tempest trumpet has valve problems and or playing issues is simply not true, as I have owned my trumpet now for one, and one half years now; The Instrument has been flawless.

I had to send my trumpet in for repair once (my fault-horn got bounced in an airport), as I was traveling across several States gigging. The Tempest guys fixed the dent in one day and airmailed my horn to my next destination in time to make the next gig, what service! The staff are all professional musicians with a long list of playing credentials and advanced music degrees; I have found them to be accentual to understanding my needs as a player- So many shops today are staffed with people that have never played in professional gig!

I would recommend the Tempest trumpet to players of any skill level as a great low cost tool for the job at hand. I would stress that the bad review by "Sage" has not been my experience, and I would hope that this positive review at least helps in your decision to purchase from Tempest

Verified Purchase
My second Lame Pest Bb notprofessional is gathering dust in the closet. The first one was full of buffing dust, and one of the valves was frozen in place. After cleaning out all the debris and then oiling, valve action was still sticky. This one was returned for a replacement.

The replacement Lame Pest that arrived was also full of buffing dust. The valves on this unit worked good dry, but any oil (two drops of Al-Cass) causes one valve to stick.

So far my two Tempest Horns have been inspected by three musical directors at a large high school, a professional musician, and many experienced music repair technicians. The verdict by all of them: THUMBS DOWN! It is real pretty though, they often say with dismay in their voice.

The musicians say it sounds nice at the lower registers, but it gets stuffy at the high notes. Hard to say if it is all the dirt impeding air flow, or if it is more valve problems.

The monel valves are a fundamental problem. Upon close inspection there are pits and swirls and lapping marks. The coating appears to be uneven and hence it is a crapshoot on whether or not the valve will fit with proper clearances. This is probably why the first one jammed up, and the second one sticks with any oil added.

So now I've got a Lame Pest in the closet gathering dust, and had to spend even more money to acquire a Yamaha. The valves on the Yamaha while not monel, at least fit right and work right. The student Yamaha also sounds as good as the lame pest and costs less.
