Book Description

Crusade Texts in Translation November 2003
The so-called "Templar of Tyre" is the third and longest section of an important 14th-century chronicle known as the "Gestes des Chiprois". Written by a Cypriot knight who served the Templar Master William of Beaujeu, the Templar provides precious contemporary insights, often drawn from the author's personal experience, into events beginning in the early 1230s and ending in 1309 in the East and 1314 in the West. It covers the last days of the mainland Crusader states and provides our only eyewitness chronicle of the fall of Acre in 1291. The author also reports various events in the West, including the wars of the Hohenstaufen in Italy, the rise and fall of Simon de Montfort in England, the trial and dissolution of the Templars in France, and the interminable wars of Genoa and Venice across the Mediterranean. This is a translation of the complete text.

Yet another great translation by the 'Crusader Texts in Translation' team. This chroincle gives an eye witness account of the sack of the Crusdaer city of Acre, as well as valuable information leading up to the sack.

This series of Translations are a must for anyone with an interst in Crusader/Muslim Medieval history.

This review is from: The Templar of Tyre: Part III of the 'Deeds of the Cypriots (Crusade Texts in Translation) (Pt.3) (Hardcover)
This is possibly the most valuable book I've purchased. I've done considerable research into the history of the Crusades between 1270 and 1291, and of the Templars until their dissolution in 1314. Nothing I have read was more helpful than this first hand account written by a confidant and secretary of the Templar Grand Master, William de Beaujeu. The author witnessed some of the most significant events of the last decades of the Outremer crusader states, and his account makes clear the deteriorating conditions and the internal conflict that led to the final collapse of the Christian Kingdom of Jerusalem.

This book is pricey, but its contents are priceless.
