This review is from: The Templar of Tyre: Part III of the 'Deeds of the Cypriots (Crusade Texts in Translation) (Pt.3) (Hardcover)
Yet another great translation by the 'Crusader Texts in Translation' team. This chroincle gives an eye witness account of the sack of the Crusdaer city of Acre, as well as valuable information leading up to the sack.
This series of Translations are a must for anyone with an interst in Crusader/Muslim Medieval history. Buy them all!

This review is from: The Templar of Tyre: Part III of the 'Deeds of the Cypriots (Crusade Texts in Translation) (Pt.3) (Hardcover)
This is possibly the most valuable book I've purchased. I've done considerable research into the history of the Crusades between 1270 and 1291, and of the Templars until their dissolution in 1314. Nothing I have read was more helpful than this first hand account written by a confidant and secretary of the Templar Grand Master, William de Beaujeu. The author witnessed some of the most significant events of the last decades of the Outremer crusader states, and his account makes clear the deteriorating conditions and the internal conflict that led to the final collapse of the Christian Kingdom of Jerusalem.
This book is pricey, but its contents are priceless.

Great primary source for the end of Crusader Syria,
This review is from: The Templar of Tyre: Part III of the 'Deeds of the Cypriots (Crusade Texts in Translation) (Pt.3) (Hardcover)
Paul Crawford's work, much like the other Crusade Texts in Translations series, is top notch quality. Many of the events of the late thirteenth and early fourteenth century of the Crusader states and Latin Mediterranean are chronicled in great detail; many will find the passages describing the siege and fall of Acre in 1291, or of the loss of the other Crusade states in the years before then, with great and dramatic detail. The "Deeds of the Cypriots" is helpful for examining the beginnings of the transformation of Crusading from a definitive goal of defending Latin Syria towards a broader, less easily defined goal of defending Latin Romania and Greek Constantiniple. One hopes that a new edition may be published which can more closely relate this primary source to its contemporary sources; even so, this is a highly laudable work.
