5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, Versatile Design....
This small temple design burner is of the type of style that will fit into just about any decor. Whether you favor a log cabin look, or consider Tuscan the only theme worth knowing anything about, this handsome little unit will fit in nicely on a table, or counter. I'm not much of an expert on wood, but I believe this is Teak. Its hard, smooth, and quality made. Best...

The burner I received was not the one pictured. I was expecting one with a metal pan suspended in the lower part of the burner. Thats clearly what is in the picture. What I got was a piece of crap that has a copper or brass foil base that has a hole in it. I don't know if I can even use it safely. AVOID THIS PRODUCT!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not good..., May 17, 2011

Before i was burning loose incense on a plate before this arrived (late). This gave the incense a musty unpleasant smell and it wouldn't even close all the way. The only good thing about this was the charcoal fit in place. I don't know what went wrong but it made perfectly ok smelling incense into an aroma nightmare

3.0 out of 5 stars Great for cones, but not for charcoal..., February 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 5" Temple Wooden Charcoal/Cone Burner (Health and Beauty)
I am not sure about some of the previous reviewers, but as of February 2011 what you receive does not match what is in the stock photo or even previous reviews. (See my uploaded photos instead.) It is similar, though not the same. Mine had a storage compartment in the base, but I am not sure what you would use it for. You cannot use it for incense storage because the burner heats up too much during use to keep anything underneath it without melting or possibly combusting.

As far as charcoal use, you can't really use it for charcoal since the burner area is too small. Even if you filled it with sand and tried to use the entire inside, it is not really suitable for charcoal because the wood just scorches and burns when you try and use it. Without a solid metal pan (matching the stock photo) this really cannot be used for charcoal. A pity really, because this is otherwise not a bad burner.

The existing brass burner insert is slightly larger than the diameter of a nickel. It is not as shown in the stock photo. It is not removable as other reviewers have stated. It is a very thin brass insert similar in thickness to what comes with most cone boxes. The tiny metal burner can only fit a single cone. It is not big enough to hold charcoal and/or any type of ceremonial incense. I was looking for something different that I could use to burn charcoal and ceremonial incense. Unfortunately this is not it.

Workmanship wise, the top hinge tends to want to pull out or fall off when you open it all the way. The metal clasp does not fit right into the wooden base and you almost have to force it to open and close. If you are careful with it, it is usable (though rather fragile). It works all right for simple cones, but that is all.

3.0 out of 5 stars Obviously Handmade, December 31, 2011

While the Temple itself is beautiful in appearance on the outside, when you open it up, you can definitely tell that it was handmade, and not in a good way. The little latch that keeps it shut falls off a lot and doesn't always work. I eventually ended up gluing it in there myself with wood glue. Also, the metal plate inside it glued crookedly to a poorly centered block of wood, which was crafted with quick, sloppy craftsmanship. Plus, you can see the dried adhesive squishing out from underneath. But I suppose you don't really buy these to sit there and stare at the inside. It serves its purpose and is nice to look at on the outside. If that's all you're concerned about, I would recommend it for sure.

2.0 out of 5 stars Looks awesome in the pic but poorly made, January 31, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 5" Temple Wooden Charcoal/Cone Burner (Health and Beauty)
The only reason I gave it 2 stars was because it looks pretty cool from a distance. The bad thing is that it seems a little fragile. The workmanship is poor and some of the holes are only half made. It's one of those things where you can really tell it was handmade by a novice. I really wanted to like it but it also kept snuffing my incense cones. That really sucks. What's the point of putting the incense in there if it's not going to burn through the holes? Oh well.. I guess you get what you paid for.

For those who just want the short: It was an awesome idea to create it, but the workmanship sucks.

The pic above in not what you will get it is made of cheap plastic fake wood that looks like junk.

The metal tray to burn the incense is a fake gold looking thing that is weird looking. And it dose not burn the incence all the way.

but on the bright side it looks really cool when you have incense burning the smoke it very cool looking.

1.0 out of 5 stars NO!!!, July 29, 2011

This is a flimsy piece of junk. The hinge arrived already broken, and fell apart immediately after opening. Also, the picture shows a full size metal bowl inside, but it ended up being a bowl the size of a bottle cap. It is totally useless. Only buy this if you want your house to burn down.

I'm not much of an expert on wood, but I believe this is Teak. Its hard, smooth, and quality made. Best of all, this burner is a cinch to clean. The top comes completely off, and the base holds a stainless steel cup that is easily cleaned out at your leisure. And, it definitely safer and more attractive than the open air style burners. Highly recoomended...
