Its alright, not great,

This book is decent, but not great. I visited Kyoto recently and was hoping to get a nice overview of the temples that we had visited. Now understanding that a volume that included ALL temples would not really be realistic as their are so many there,I was hoping that at least the more "famous" ones would be included so as to have a nice memento of our trip. The book itself warns that it is far from a complete resource, and that it really doesnt have a particular theme.Rather, its a collection of random temples that the photographer happened upon in their own visit(s). The photos are decent, but not as stunning or as in-depth as I would have hoped.Same with what is written, the text barely scratching the surface on what each temple is about.
So again, this book isnt necessarily bad,but it left me a little disappointed. I would not recommend this book for the outrageous prices i've seen it listed at.In fact,after reading it im puzzled as to why its demanding such prices on the after-market? If this is the definitive volume in English on the topic, then that is quite sad. |
