"Biglietto per l'Inferno" ("Ticket to hell") - Italian progressive rock act from the 70s, which enjoyed a less than average success at that time, but nowadays is praised as a cornerstone of the genre (in Italy) and one of the founders. The glory of the band is based mainly on exaggerated nostalgic memories of lucky ones who had seen the live gigs; "Biglietto" was famous for its live performances, but there is a huge difference between the concert and studio. Actually, "Biglietto" comes second after "De De Lind" (Io Non So da Dove Vengo e Son So Dove Mai Andrio). Anyway, I suspect that they never heard Latin proverb "Multum nocet" - "Too much is harmful", otherwise they wouldn't desperately try to put everything into their music: brass section (a la early Chicago or Blood, Sweat & Tears - more jazz-rock than prog), pastoral flute - in line with Jethro Tull, sound effects (picket up from the pioneers of space rock), manic drumming, screaming guitars, keyboards, weak attempts to follow unison singing of Uriah Heep... Live album of 1974 - Live 1974 - gives a pretty good impression of the band, and the advantage is that it covers the songs from both studio albums (including the first - Biglietto Per L'inferno). Often off-tune vocals of Claudio Canali (lead singer) comes as a bonus. The concept is pretty chaotic (or messy?), reminds Yes in this aspect, but talented... In spite of the scary name, the band was pretty mellow and the music was rather tamed - it has nothing to do with early "doom". Read more ›
