Good, but not Connie Mason's best., December 7, 2003
By A Customer
I believe I would have enjoyed this book more if there had been one less abduction of the leading lady, Devon. Three times she was taken from the hero of the story, her lover and eventual husband Kit; AKA "Diablo" the notorious pirate. The first time you can feel for the couple. The second time, you can still sympathize. The third time, you're just left feeling "oh brother... again?" The last time was also annoying because she could have easily escaped from the "deaf/ mute" maid that she was left with... but she never even tried. I'm a big Connie Mason fan. I love many of her books, including "The Lion's Bride", "The Laird of Stonehaven", "Sheik", and "Lionheart." However, this one repeated it's themes and restated the history of the many characters over and over again. I believe it could have been great, if about 100 pages of it had been deleted. I was also dismayed at the way every single character found love in the end. A bit too idealistic. Even two of the worst foes of the story, who kidnapped and even tried to kill the leading lady, never got justice... instead finding true love. Only one foe of the story actually received his just punishment. It was still a good read, because Mason made the leading couple so magnetic. The love scenes are good, although they also got a bit repetitive. I liked both the hero and the leading lady. All of the characters of the book very vividly written. Overall, I just wasn't as enthralled in Mason's story line as I have been with her other books.

A good read for me, February 6, 2006
The thing that I love about this book is that the minute you start reading there is action and chemistry between Diablo and Devon a good page turner, romance, action and good Connie Mason sex scenes.
The capture senes were a little crazy 3 times honey self defense course *joking*, but i love it..
If your looking for a good book to relax with and just let lose in try this one..it might be the typical pirate of the seas romance but still a good and ok read...

Not this author's best story, 2.5 stars, November 4, 2010
This review is from: Tempt the Devil (Leisure Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
If you like your heroines naïve and way too trusting with everyone but the hero, then Tempt the Devil is going to be an enjoyable read. This book starts out wonderfully but the antics of the heroine got on my nerves by the middle of this tale.
Kit aka Diablo the Pirate is set to hang in London. Attending the hanging is Lady Devon, she really has no desire to watch but she is coerced into watching this spectacle by her father and gold digging fiancé. She spies Diablo across the crowd and he sees her also while he waits for the hangman's noose. Diablo manages a daring escape and takes Devon as his hostage. He steals her away to his ship and before he can safely return her, a storm brews forcing him to keep Devon with him on his trans-Atlantic crossing.
These two leads never listen to each other and Devon is not honest with herself regarding her feelings about the pirate. She hates him but he makes her feel all kinds of romantic and passionate feelings too. She tries to resist his advances but she is unsuccessful at fighting her own desires and blames Kit for it. Surprisingly, Kit is the one to be expressive with his emotions verbally and physically. Devon though is reserved except in the bedroom and she is desperate to return to her fiancé in London. She is so trusting that she beleives the most evil of men and she is gullible when it comes to her fiancé too. She is quick though to believe the worst of Devon.
Kit is certain that Devon and he belong together and he is quite the pursuer. This man takes rejection quite well I guess, because Devon is insistent in word and deed that she does not want a future with him. She has preconceived notions about Kit (some are true) but she is not very observant. Overall this rates 2.5 stars, the hero was a little too arrogant, the heroine was ridiculously naïve and she seemed intent on disregarding her feelings.
