Good, but not Connie Mason's best.,

I believe I would have enjoyed this book more if there had been one less abduction of the leading lady, Devon. Three times she was taken from the hero of the story, her lover and eventual husband Kit; AKA "Diablo" the notorious pirate. The first time you can feel for the couple. The second time, you can still sympathize. The third time, you're just left feeling "oh brother... again?" The last time was also annoying because she could have easily escaped from the "deaf/ mute" maid that she was left with... but she never even tried.I'm a big Connie Mason fan. I love many of her books, including "The Lion's Bride", "The Laird of Stonehaven", "Sheik", and "Lionheart." However, this one repeated it's themes and restated the history of the many characters over and over again. I believe it could have been great, if about 100 pages of it had been deleted. I was also dismayed at the way every single character found love in the end. A bit too idealistic. Even two of the worst foes of the story, who kidnapped and even tried to kill the leading lady, never got justice... instead finding true love. Only one foe of the story actually received his just punishment. It was still a good read, because Mason made the leading couple so magnetic. The love scenes are good, although they also got a bit repetitive. I liked both the hero and the leading lady. All of the characters of the book very vividly written. Overall, I just wasn't as enthralled in Mason's story line as I have been with her other books.

The thing that I love about this book is that the minute you start reading there is action and chemistry between Diablo and Devon a good page turner, romance, action and good Connie Mason sex scenes.
The capture senes were a little crazy 3 times honey self defense course *joking*, but i love it.. If your looking for a good book to relax with and just let lose in try this one..it might be the typical pirate of the seas romance but still a good and ok read...

If you like your heroines naïve and way too trusting with everyone but the hero, then Tempt the Devil is going to be an enjoyable read. This book starts out wonderfully but the antics of the heroine got on my nerves by the middle of this tale.
Kit aka Diablo the Pirate is set to hang in London. Attending the hanging is Lady Devon, she really has no desire to watch but she is coerced into watching this spectacle by her father and gold digging fiancé. She spies Diablo across the crowd and he sees her also while he waits for the hangman's noose. Diablo manages a daring escape and takes Devon as his hostage. He steals her away to his ship and before he can safely return her, a storm brews forcing him to keep Devon with him on his trans-Atlantic crossing. These two leads never listen to each other and Devon is not honest with herself regarding her feelings about the pirate. She hates him but he makes her feel all kinds of romantic and passionate feelings too. She tries to resist his advances but she is unsuccessful at fighting her own desires and blames Kit for it. Surprisingly, Kit is the one to be expressive with his emotions verbally and physically. Devon though is reserved except in the bedroom and she is desperate to return to her fiancé in London. She is so trusting that she beleives the most evil of men and she is gullible when it comes to her fiancé too. She is quick though to believe the worst of Devon. Kit is certain that Devon and he belong together and he is quite the pursuer. This man takes rejection quite well I guess, because Devon is insistent in word and deed that she does not want a future with him. She has preconceived notions about Kit (some are true) but she is not very observant. Overall this rates 2.5 stars, the hero was a little too arrogant, the heroine was ridiculously naïve and she seemed intent on disregarding her feelings.

A good fantasy romance,

I have read a lot of Connie Mason books, most are good. In this book the capture scenes are a little to much, I mean who in their right minds would allow themselves to be taken that many times, but of course this is fiction. Overall this is a interesting book. The plots are good, and of course you've got plenty of sex scenes, as with most of her books, but all in all it makes for a good fantasy reading book. At least her heros ,adn heroins are strong figures, most of the time. I enjoyed and will buy more.

Not sure how I ended up with this one on my kindle, as I can't find it in kindle books now. Regardless, I find myself doing something that is totally out of character for me. I am giving this one 2 stars. I am normally open-minded enough to find SOME redeeming qualities in a book. It takes guts to be an author. This, however, did not do it for me. That is not to say that the premise was not appealing to me for I have liked piratical romance in the past. Mason's execution in this story was not working for me. The dialogue seemed forced and stilted. I was horrified for these characters, because although I am not normally a stickler on things like this, it must hurt to be that stupid and accepting. It seemed that even though they were sometimes smacked in the face with things, they were incapable of drawing a "normal" conclusion. Furthermore, the order/flow of thoughts for these folks seemed to be completely disrupted at times. It was almost comical. The heroine, like many in this genre, was portrayed as being pretty and dumb, but she seemed to take it to another level. This was just too lusty for me. THAT is really not something I would typically say. This, however, was not the hot and bothered kind of lust, it was the make you curl your lip in disgust kind of lust. I finished this one, but it was only because I forced myself. It took MUCH longer than it should have. I pride myself on being one of those reviewers that can say "I finished the book...and..". Oh well, this will make the list of a few that just did not get better for me.

One "forced seduction" after another--yuk.,

I just can't enjoy a book where the "hero" repeatedly tells the heroine that he's going to have her whether she wants to or not. He doesn't exactly force her--I guess the term "forced seduction" describes it: he starts with or without her and she eventually succumbs. Meanwhile she's one of those too-stupid-to-live women, constantly making nonsensical choices. Not that I read it all--I got 32% into it and skipped to the end, and I didn't even read that, just skimmed it. Not worth your time or your $4.11!

Are you kidding me?,
This review is from: Tempt the Devil (Leisure Historical Romance) (Kindle Edition)
Quite possibly the worst I have ever read! The excessive use of corny sexual terms is laughable! Not to mention the authors obvious love for the word 'virile' is just too much for me. This author and book are a waste of my time and are undeserving of being on my kindle.

This is my first Connie Mason book and it won't be my last. I read some reviews that said this wasn't her best book, if that's the case then I can't wait to read others from her. The book was a great length, something I could sink my teeth into. I loved that Diablo was truly a good guy, not a bad one turned good by a woman...oh yes, and VERY sexy. Devon was a good character, but I wish she would've told Diablo sooner the reason she didn't think their relationship would work (her fear of him getting killed). I also didn't like that Scarlett got off so easy. Scarlett's and Cormac's story was too short, like a footnote; it could have been a book in itself -- as well at the story of Akbar and Tara. All in all, I loved the book and can't wait to read another from Connie.

My favorite Connie Mason book!,
By
This review is from: Tempt the Devil (Leisure historical romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
This was the first Connie Mason book I ever read, and I always find myself coming back to it. This book throroughly entertains the reader from start to finish. The sex scenes are hot, and the plot keeps right on moving. I even lent this book to a doubtful male friend of mine, who scoffed at me for reading romance novels. I challenged him to read this book. If he thought it was stupid, he could feel free to mock me for the rest of my life, BUT if he liked it, he could never tease me again for reading "fluff". He confessed that even HE got aroused reading the sex scenes, and he enjoyed the book so much, he asked me for another. Any author who can entice a man to read these romance novels (which are usually written by women, for women) is extremely talented! It's hard to go wrong with Connie Mason. |
