5.0 out of 5 stars Steamy, good fun, stay-up-all-night book -- run to get a copy
Lucas and Irisa fabulous characters, and more complex than I can begin to describe. Tempt Me has wonderful character development. This book had everything you need to create a good romance: a dashing hero, a beautiful heroine, a person who always seems to interfere with the hero and heroine, and, most of all...PASSION!Tempt Me is wonderfully written with just the right...

Lucas and Irisa fabulous characters, and more complex than I can begin to describe. Tempt Me has wonderful character development. This book had everything you need to create a good romance: a dashing hero, a beautiful heroine, a person who always seems to interfere with the hero and heroine, and, most of all...PASSION!Tempt Me is wonderfully written with just the right emotional touches. Lucy Monroe's knowledge of the period paints such vivid pictures that her readers feel they're a part of the action, and the underlying sexual tension will leave you squirming in your chair.Lucy Monroe's delivers a sensuous, humorous, adventurous plot.Engaging characters, attention to historical detail, and humorous dialogue will kept me reading long into the night. The interaction between the leads was great. There is enough conflict to make the story line interesting and not so much that your left wondering why they ever got together. BUY THIS BOOK!

I loved Touch Me. Tempt Me is even better. I can't wait until book 3 Take Me comes out.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good second book in a historical romance series., June 14, 2006
This review is from: Tempt Me (Langley Family Trilogy) (Paperback)
Lady Irisa Langley is the illegitimate daughter of an Earl and his wife. But, this illegitimate birth is a secret from the Ton and those who pursue her as a wife. She has managed to blackmail her parents with this fact so that she can choose who she wants to be married to. Using this information she has turned down a number of suitors. When she is drawn to "the Saint" Lord Lucas Ashton she hopes she has finally found the man to share her life with and will not hold her past against her. When her father tells Lucas about her heritage (or so she thinks) and he still wants to marry her she is ecstatic. Unfortunately someone immediately tries to not only keep them apart but also tried to blackmail Irisa into not marrying Lucas. Lucas won't stand for it and decided the wedding is on, especially once Irisa tried to back out to save his reputation. Suddenly strange things seem to be happening to Irisa, she is locked out in a storm and she gets more threatening notes. But, Lucas is determined that they will face the blackmailer together and this means married.

I liked that Lucas stuck by her and didn't turn into a jerk as some authors have a tendency to do with this type of storyline. Though I do think in reality Irisa would have been a little less whiny but, it is fiction after all. I look forward to the next installment in this series.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Read!, May 4, 2006
This review is from: Tempt Me (Langley Family Trilogy) (Paperback)
Lady Irisa Langley wants control over her life. In a moment of daring she tells her parents she will choose the man she will marry and if they give her any grief she will tell society the truth about her birth. She knows her parents will do all they can to keep the secret that would ruin them. After years of looking for the man she could possibly love she finds him. He is Lord Lucas Ashton "The Saint" so named because he doesn't share in the vice of society. He is cautious and before she can marry him she feels she will have to be honest about her life...birth. What will happen if she tells the saint the truth?

Lucas wants to live a life without regret or scandal. When he finally decides that Irisa is the woman he wants to marry he has no idea how difficult it's going to be to get the lady to the alter. No matter what he isn't going to let this sensual lass get away from him. But, will he be able to keep her safe? Getting to the alter has never been so much work.

Ms. Monroe's latest effort is entertaining but the reader should be forewarned that Irisa is a strong lead with a lot of modern ideas. The use of misunderstanding is the vehicle of choice here to keep our lovers apart. Lucas is a well crafted hero...and one the readers will be rooting for.

1.0 out of 5 stars Please put me in the "Did not like" category!, September 30, 2006
By
This review is from: Tempt Me (Langley Family Trilogy) (Paperback)
This book is 327 pages of small print dealing with THE BIG MISUNDERSTANDING. If you like that type of plotting for your romance novels, you will love this book. Every time I thought this problem was about to be solved by our hero and heroine actually speaking more than four or five words strung together in a sentence to each other--BAM--here came another crisis.

Irisa ALWAYS misinterpreted Lucas' actions mainly because his conversations with her usually consisted of phrases such as, "Trust me, sweeting" and nothing else. It is hard to know where a man is coming from if he will not talk to you. But then, she didn't talk to him either. She wanted him to prove that he desired her by being more physical with her but she never bothered to let him know that. He was obviously supposed to divine it by looking into her eyes. She was too confined by conventional rules of conduct to talk about her feelings but not too confined to put on boys clothes, sneak out of the house, make her way across London, at night, ALONE, and stand outside a woman's house to see if she was Lucas' mistress. Wasn't it fortunate for the plot that Lucas came to visit this woman on that very night even though it had already been established that his visits always occured during the day? One quibble which may be unimportant but which I found annoying, at the beginning of the book Irisa is 17, about to turn 18 because they are planning a birthday party for her, four years later she is 20. New math?

Lucas was called The Saint initially by his mother to indicate her dislike of his strict code of conduct which she did not want to follow. The name was taken up by the members of the ton and actually seemed to fit him pretty well. He should have been a sympathetic character but I just could not warm up to him. There again, a tiny bit of dialogue would have gone a long way toward helping these characters become "real" people.

Throw in irresponsible behavior on the part of Irisa, blackmail and kidnapping and you just have a long, boring mess. Did anyone ever figure out why the Earl and Countess of Langley hated Irisa? She was their own daughter and I know her birth could have been the cause of scandal for them but why did it make them hate her? Just never could figure that one out. Of course, without their hate, there would be no plot line but still, at least give me a good reason for the hatred. She was their meal ticket for staying firmly entrenched within the ton. Looks to me like they should have been doing everything possible to keep her happy. And throwing in the disfigurement accident with her brother. Please, he was just another character for the author to move around. At least he did provide someone for Lucas to have full sentence conversations with.

Not recommended. Did not like it. My first book by this author and positively will not try her again.

1.0 out of 5 stars "BORING AND SENSELESS", December 3, 2008
By

This review is from: Tempt Me (Langley Family Trilogy) (Paperback)
This by is by far the most perplexing book I have ever read. It did not have a plot and it was very repetitive. I mean how can you blackmail someone and the truth is already known. The hero and heroine constantly argued about absolutely nothing. Everything that usually happens towards the end of a story was happening at the beginning of the book. I should have got a clue then and put the book down. Irisha's (heroine) character seemed to have a severe mental disease. She flicked off on poor Lucas (hero) for no reason throughout the entire story. She basically acted like a immature, spoiled child and it was very annoying. She was very unlikable. The hero calls the heroine "little one" throughout the entire story. "Little One"..... that was so corny. You don't get to a sex scene unitl around page 230. And the sex scenes were short and not good all all. Irisha gets mad at Lucas immediately after they make love. What was this writer thinking??? The whole story never seemed to make sense to me. I finished the book only because I like to finish reading whatever I start. However, It was really, really hard to get through. This is one of the worst books I have ever read. Why was the title called Tempt Me? There is nothing tempting about this one!!!!!!!!!! I'm so glad I didn't waste my time buying the whole series.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring and a waste of time, May 26, 2007

Iris loves Lucas but tries to break their engagement because she believes she has a bad reputation that will hurt him. He doesn't care but she still tries to leave him. Too many conflicts occur due to innacurate assumptions between Irisa and Lucas, and neither one of them clarifies for the other. Too many boring conversations. The author spends too much time with the thoughts of the characters going back and forth about what to do or what to think. I skimmed several parts of the book to get through the tediousness. It was a waste of time. I wish I had never read it.

Cross does a good job of building her characters. However, the book sags in the middle. She takes the easy way out too often and overuses cliches.
