Este disco esta divino!!!,

I am a long time die hard fan of Brenda K Starr. I LOVE this new album, which marks her entrance onto Sony Discos and a departure from previous label Parcha Records. I loved her four previous album releases on Parcha. The new album features 12 explosive tracks. Three english tracks that blend salsa and r&b with even a little hip hop. Guest artists include Tito Nieves, Angel Lopez, Victor Manuelle, and Getto. The colaborations are fantastic. Brenda's sweet voice blends harmoniously with those of the guest artists. I whole heartedly recommend purchasing this album, especially if you love salsa, r&b and hip hop. I recommend this album much more if you LOVE Brenda K Starr as I do. If the incomparable Brenda would read this I would want to tell her "I love this album and all your albums and you are truely a DIVA!!!" Temptation makes me wanna dance to the tropical rhythms and jam to the hip hop bass. Let me tell you this is 100% STARR POWER right here!!! Trust me on this.

Not her best album, but worthy.,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Temptation (Audio CD)
This album is different from her other salsa efforts in that this album focuses on commercial sasla instead a more tradition salsa found on her previous efforts. This album includes the hit singles "Por Ese Hombre" and "Rabia" which are highlights on the album. Other highlights are "Love On a Two Way Street" (originally recorded by Stacy Lattisaw), both the English and Spanish versions of the title track "Temptation" among others. Her voice is sweet and pleasant throughout. This album is flawed, however it is worthy.

I recommend this salsa cd to all Brenda K.Starr fans. I specially love the song "Rabia" and "Ese Hombre" with Victor Manuelle. This is my favorite of her Spanish releases. Brenda has a very unique voice and it's great singing freestyle and Salsa! I can't wait for her new release in 7/2005

i don't know what's happened, but the sparkling gem which was once brenda k. starr's voice has now turned lacklustre...and apparently, her departure from parcha/platano records onto sony discos is nothing to be celebrated, somebody call the execs over at jalapeno, prontito....it's sad but true, she is really trying to vanilla-ize her style by toning down la pasion and making like j.lo on a bad day.. AY, porque?!!!! her first 3 albums really WERE the best, her first, "te sigo esperando" being the absolute best...also, i don't know what's going on with the person who said she's trying to do a fake horrible puerto rican accent, but it's convincing me, and she has that sassy, almost nasal tone which is perfect to execute it- that's one of the reasons i fell in love with brenda k. starr's voice- it actually HAD authenticity in its pronunciation, which translates into very beautiful singing...not to mention her high notes were flawless and so full of raw energy y por favor, be it a platano, a parcha, or a jalapeno, GO RUNNING BACK TO IT, because that tropical island style salsa is where you belong, and to sony discos le digo YA NO- anehoo, i give this album 3 stars because it stars the salsera formerly known as princess, y por eso tengo que tenerla respeto, pero en el futuro damenos unos petalos de fuego, un poco mas de azucar moreno, mas pimienta y menos sal... as for this production, i nearly fell apart upon discovering that any trace of the singer was all but gone- there are a few good songs to be certain, but overall me parece que la diva que es brenda k. starr ha desaparecido por el momento- donde fue?!?! please do us the favor of returning..

How Dare She Call Herself a Salsera! Qué Asco!,
By Shannon Lee Gilstad "Sha" (Bronx, New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Temptation (Audio CD)
In the past few years Salsa music has declined in quality dramatically. Even the better "salseros" have started to slip. Given that, there's no wonder this album is so bad.I was apprehensive about her first album because she looked like just another over made-up cheap imitation. I have to say, I was quite surprised. In fact, her first three albums all are very good. You may want to know that 1) Brenda K. Starr had her start as a Freestyle singer, a genre that was popular in NYC among Nuyoricans in the 1980s, 2) That she is not fully Puerto Rican, in fact her father, who is Jewish (their surname is Kay), was a member of the late 60s/early 70s group Spiral Starecase, and 3) she can't even speak Spanish. Given that background info, it totally explains why this album is full of pseudo-Latin beats, airy accentless vocals, and poor attempts at a Puerto Rican accent. All of the songs sound the same, there's no variety, and she has taken on that typical (as of late) elementary, have-no-rhythm, bland as vanilla pseudo-Salsa style (actually, lack there of) that so many salseros are using. Even her duet with veteran salseros, Tito Nieves (whose voice quality is not at his best) and Victor Manuelle can't save her. Like La India's album, Starr cannot decide on a rhythm to use. She jumps from her airy, talentless pseudo-salsa to a poor attempt at what her album calls "Son" to a very monotonous try at Hip Hop/ R & B that just sounds trashy. She seems like a musical J-Lo/Christina Aguilera to me. IN other words, she clearly has no idea what Latin music is and only seems to want to capitalize on her "Latina roots". If you're not convinced, I had a chance to see her leaving her appearance at the Bronx Week Parade/Concert where she performed. Though she grew up with a Jewish father and can't speak Spanish, she was dressed in a stereotypically (or what she thought was) "Nuyorican-esque" outfit including big gold hoop earrings, tightly pulled back hair, and tight clothes calling ever other fan who approached her "Mami" and "Papi", which was esp. embarassing considering she's nearing her 40s. Verdict? Sweety, it's going to take a lot more than a wardrobe, singing with salseros, and overusing ghetto slang for you to be taken seriuously as a salsera. Don't quit your day job; you're only fit for Freestyle. |
