Featurette: Cast and Crew Interviews
Photo Gallery

Catherine Taylor's seductive and tantalizing vampire tale unleashes an onslaught of bloody killings, sexual excess and vampric desire set against a lush, colorful London night life of swinging singles and nocturnal predators. Beautiful, young professional Isabel (Caroline Haines) is out on the town with friends. One too many is the least of her problems when she is saved from the clutches of a serial rapist by a centuries-old, ruthless but gorgeous vampire, Aurelie (Rachel Waters) - but at what cfost. Now under Aurelie's spell and with an intensifying taste for blood, Isabel has only 48 hours to decide whether to give in to her lustful and crimson cravings or end it all before it's too late. Temptation brings a fresh and new look to the vampire genre with atmosphere, sensuality and filmmaking bravado.

I don't usually write reviews, but I couldn't let the first reviewer's 2-star rating go unchallenged. He said it didn't have enough nudity or explicit sex in it. It's true it can't compare to a Glori-Ann Gilbert or Syn DeVil soft core "classic", but as a film it's not trying to go there. It won "Best British Horror Film" in 2010. Somebody must like it.

The plot is pretty simple: a girl, upset by her boyfriend's behavior, goes out to a bar, is picked up by an evil cab driver who rapes her and leaves her for dead in an alley. She is "saved" by the bite of a vampiress and later told she must feed within 48 hours or die.

The movie is about what she does in those 48 hours, at home with her family, with her boyfriend, and with the vampiress and her little crew of vampire hotties. There is also a police inspector trying to find out who's been draining people around town.

There are some scenes of nudity and mild lesbianism, and they are flashed back to several times, as if to pad out the film's running time. I wish it had been longer, or at least had some additional gratuitous footage. But...

The main characters seem real and plausible (especially by b-movie standards). Caroline Haines is both lovely and convincing as the damsel in distress. She is in almost every scene and carries the movie. She's a young actress, just starting out. You can google her name to see pics, and she's on IMDB as well. (There are also more clips of the movie on YouTube.)

The amazing sound track by John Koutselinis gives the film a dark, suspenseful feeling throughout, keeping the focus on the main character's dilemma. The photography is good quality, not the washed out grainy stuff in most low budget movies. They spent some actual money on this one.

It wasn't flashy, and there there were several plot holes, unanswered questions, and a few of the actresses weren't the best, but all in all it was an OK low-budget vampire flick that kept my attention the whole time.

Another reviewer seems to think this was intended more as soft-core erotica, and if that was the case then it failed in its endeavor. It did have some titillating scenes but nothing to write home about, but that didn't seem to be the focus. So I doubt that was the film-maker's primary intent. It felt more like an early, indie, stab at vampire horror.

Worth the rental, worth the watch. It won't be one I'll probably watch again though.

Isabel and her friends are enjoying London's nightlife. She leaves the pub early and is caught in a rapist's grip. Aurelie, a very ancient vampire, arrives on the scene to help her, giving Isabel her blood. Thus begins Isabel's transformation into becoming a vampire herself. Isabel has the police after her as well as the beautiful ancient vampire who introduced her into becoming a vampire. Isabel kills a plaything of Aurelie, who in kind kills Isabel's sister and mother. When Isabel and Aurelie face off what will Isabel do? Release herself in another suicide attempt or join Aurelie in her vampire world or perhaps neither. This is a great vampire movie, well worth watching.

Not for Twilight fans - this film is Argento meets Interview with the Vampire. Great cinematography, use of colors and classical score (except for the end credits), all very rare in true independent cinema. All female cast and crew lend credibility to a story which seems to be an allegory of a young girls journey into womanhood. As the protagonist (Isabel) transforms into a Vampire, we are reminded of a young girls confusion and excitement as she experiences her first menstrual cycle.

It would seem the writer or director has something against men, as there aren't any positive male roles in Temptation. And with the not-so-subtle lesbian undertones throughout...

There is some sex, a very brutal rape scene, good editing, some nudity and a bit of violence. Like the sex, when the violence does occur, it's pretty full on.

The only thing that stops this film from getting top marks are the obvious budget constraints - but the filmmakers have worked around these whenever possible. Hopefully a re-make or bigger budget sequel will iron out the low-budget kinks.

Includes a fairly lengthy cast & crew interview featurette, unfortunately the director and writer have the least to say of anyone involved.
