About the Author

Sue-Ellen Welfonder is a Scotophile whose burning wish to make frequent trips to the land of her dreams led her to a twenty-year career with the airlines.

Now a full-time writer, she's quick to admit that she much prefers wielding a pen to pushing tea and coffee. She makes annual visits to Scotland, insisting they are a necessity, as each trip gives her inspiration for new books.

Proud of her own Hebridean ancestry, she belongs to two clan societies: the MacFie Clan Society and the Clan MacAlpine Society. In addition to Scotland, her greatest passions are medieval history, the paranormal, and dogs. She never watches television, loves haggis, and writes at a 450-year-old desk that once stood in a Bavarian castle.

Sue-Ellen is married and currently resides with her husband and Jack Russell terrier in Florida.

When three clans who have been fighting one another their entire life have to create a peace between them the question arises - is that possible? The peace would never happen if not for three very wily women who are from these warring clans but want lairds for husbands and make a pact to get that done. One woman has accomplished this already and now Lady Isobel Cameron is ready for the man of her dreams to become her partner for life and if Kendrew Mackintosh is ready or not, here she comes.

Isobel fell in love with Kendrew the moment she saw him and realized that beneath the tough façade beat the heart of a kind man. Kendrew regarded all things outside his clan especially a gently breed lady as trouble and if he had known who Isobel was, he would never have engaged in any type of liaison. But your heart tends to rule when your true love is near and for Kendrew fight as he might against it Isobel is not only warming his heart she is keeping the entire winter chill away from him. It may seem that Kendrew can blame the fanciful tales and mysteries of the land on some of his choices but when it comes to Isobel, he knows he made the right decision and will never regret the change she brings to his life.

Kendrew must come to terms with the peace agreement and providing the piece needed to do that is not an easy request. He always felt that his land and property were not to be shared and now he was going to be part of rewriting history. While other darker forces will do what they can stop the peace from happening, when the three clans join together no group of maundering rouges will take it away.

This series fulfills all of my Scottish historical romance requirements.

The Cameron, Macintosh and MacDonald clans hold an uneasy peace. They each inhabit a different part of the same glen and were forced to stop fighting by the King. Each chief has a sister and the three women have entered a pact to make the peace more meaningful. Each plans to marry a chief from one of the other clans, forging unbreakable bonds between the families.

Lady Isobel Cameron is crazy about Kendrew, the chief of the Macintosh clan. He has never paid her much attention, which makes her plan to seduce him so much easier. She shows up at a Macintosh clan gathering, known for its hedonism. She presents herself to Kendrew and the two of them get down to business before he realizes who he is dealing with. Let me just say, I love it when a book jumps in with both feet!!

Anyway, Kendrew gets quite a shock when he realizes A) he just shagged a virgin; B) she is a lady; and C) she is a Cameron. He sends her packing. But Lady Isobel is determined to get her man. She loves his brutish Viking ways, his wildness, and his fierce home. And despite his protests, he is crazy about her too. I loved watching the dance between them as they take two steps toward a relationship, then one step back again.

But reading Temptation of a Highland Scoundrel was almost like reading two different stories in one. The main arc is the one featuring Kendrew and Isobel. But at the same time, there is a secondary storyline involving ghosts and dragons. I didn't understand how this fit in with the present day story at all. It was completely unnecessary and, frankly, distracted me greatly from what was going on with our main characters. I wanted to skip these parts but I was afraid it would tie in to the main storyline as the book progressed. It didn't.

I enjoyed the characters, the ghostly assistance and the fast paced action of this book.

Isobel Cameron is the sister of the Cameron Chief and is a fiercely passionate highlander. She has made a pact with the sisters of the other two clan chiefs. It isn't easy for the three rival clans to share the glen where they live. But the option to truce is to have the King banish them all from the land. Although the men are particularly hard to coax into friendship, the sisters of the three leaders have agreed to seek peace through marriage to the other clan leaders. Catriona MacDonald has already married James Cameron in Sins of a Highland Devil. Now Isobel has her sights, and her heart, set on Kendrew Macintosh the brawny leader of the Macintosh clan.

Kendrew is a vibrant, fierce warrior who would much prefer battling with his ax than seeking making friends with his neighbors. Kendrew is known to favor the women too but he particularly avoids any Lady and he isn't interested in settling down. On a night of rivalry, Kendrew is attracted in the dark to a seductress; their passion is intense until he discovers that the woman is Isobel Cameron, not only a Lady but the sister of one of his rivals.

Isobel has her task set out for her to convince Kendrew to fall in love with her. She has to show Kendrew her Highlander strength and her love for the wild country. I appreciated Isobel's unflagging determination.

As Isobel tries to capture Kendrew's affections there is a sinister force stalking Kendrew and others in the glen that lends mystery and suspense to the story. The chase and tug between Isobel and Kendrew is enjoyable. The passion between the couple is warm and rich. I liked the interventions from the glen's legendary ghosts as well as the ghostly draegan master who tries to help protect Kendrew and his clan.

This story is a good blend of conflict, mystery, romance and a bit of magic. It read quickly and easily for a satisfying read.
