Don't Bother.....Let's Hope for better.,

I am a fan of Diana Krall...I own every CD she's put out, her DVD and I have seen her in concert five times. This single is on The Girl In The Other Room CD. Rarely have I been more disappointed in a purchase then when I first listened to this CD..... After repeated listening that I hoped would lead to an appreciation of some aspect that I overlooked - I just don't even listen to it anymore. Perhaps the only greater disappointment was going to see her live on her latest tour in support of the CD.
Souless drivel well sung, is still souless drivel. Her new husband, Elvis Costello has done her no favors in writing the songs that are feature on the CD....I hope when the blush of romance has faded a bit she will find her way back to exploring compelling music again. I applaud her valor in trying to escape the confines of "The Great American Songbook" but this effort was ill advised. Do yourself a favor, don't buy the single, don't buy the CD and don't go see her perform on her current tour. There's too much talent here to expect she won't provide plenty of good music in the future but this time she just didn't get it done. I am hopeful that this is just a stumble as she seeks to walk her own musical path. My favorites CDs of hers are "Loves Scenes" and "Live In Paris" and the "Live in Paris" DVD is one of the best music DVDs of a live concert I've ever seen. Enjoy those and wait for her next effort.

Well done, but I still prefer the old standards,

What I loved about Krall was her revival of the old standards with a great voice and excellent piano work. But, it appears she has left her jazz fans behind. Not one recognizable title on this album -- no standards here. But, she's entitled -- she must be tired of all the touring and repetitious playing -- it gets a little old after awhile. Now, she's in a new era and her music will reflect that. I guess it's time for her to move in new directions and I'm sure she will attract new fans. But, as an old jazz player myself, I will miss her jazz -- at least we have these great recordings, the best being her "Live in Paris" DVD. Onward and Onward.

Until April...,

"Temptation", which will be the first single from Diana upcoming CD " The Girl In The Other Room", is a Tom Waits song with Christian McBride, et al. "I'll Never Be The Same" is a non-album track with Diana solo at the piano. Both are reminiscent of recent Diana releases. I am hoping that her April 27th release, which features songs written with her new husband Elvis Costello, contains a few uptempo songs like we've seen before on "Steppin Out". We'll all just have to wait until April.

I hope the rest of the album is as good as TEMPTATION...,

Apparently, the joy of marrying the man of her dreams has given Ms.Krall's music a much needed dose of va-va-voom. I was a bit disappointed with Diana's last album, 2001's THE LOOK OF LOVE. If TEMPTATION, however, is any indication of what THE GIRL IN THE OTHER ROOM is going to sound like (in general), we have something very special to look forward to indeed. Sensual and vibrant, TEMPTATION displays a rare sense of joy in Krall's voice that, until now, has only occassionally been heard during live performances. With her life back on track, Diana has never sounded so incredible. As for I'LL NEVER BE THE SAME, it's a heart felt number that sounds like it could actually be a demo that was left on the cutting room floor. I don't know this for sure, but it's possible. Overall, I say that April 27th is going to be a very good day.

Oh, dear. After waiting what seems like an eternity for Diana's new studio CD, I hope that "Temptation" isn't an indication of what's on the rest of "The Girl in the Other Room". Often criticized for singing too many standards and too much glamorized packaging, Diana seems to have decided to "get down", and down this single is: not a great or even good song, and it's completely at odds with DK's intimate, honey-and-whiskey vocals. Far, far beneath her talents. Like others, I was semi-critical of "The Look of Love" as too romantic, glossy and generic. Had we known that this might contribute to DK's "new direction", we would have definitely kept our opinions to ourselves. Please, Diana, get back to the standards ASAP! I agree with another Amazon reviewer who suggested a Jobim-salute would be awesome.

This review refers to Diana Kralls new album The Girl in the Other Room, of which Temptation is one of the tracks.Diana Krall's new album is quite something. Mostly new work written by Krall, and her new husband. Other tracks by the likes of Tom Waits, Bonnie Raitt and Elvis Costello.I'm amazed how Mrs. Krallstello has kept her jazz mojo intact through all this new music. The music is her. An incredible album that moves through loss, love and hope. Congratulations Diana (and Elvis), well done.

DIANNA, LOVE ELVIS BUT NOT HIS MUSIC,

She's had two bad misses, The Girl in the Other Room and now this. Please go back to the Great American Songbook...or sing some covers of soulful songs, Tom Waits, like Holly Cole did or some Motown ballads...You we're great on that tribute to Patsy Cline album...You're in a class of jazz singers like Dakota Staton, Nina Simone, Blossom Dearie, et al be happy with that or Renee Olstead or Jane Monheit will eat your lunch and knock you off the "Current queen of Jazz" pedestal. Some artists can cross over...your intrinsic jazz spirit and intonations seem to preclude that...Stick to the boy that brung ya to the dance...and it ain't elvis.

Not Tempted by Temptation,

Although Diana sings every song she sings with skill and the proper emotion, the song "Temptation" by Tom Waites. would be better suited to the slightly raspy and bluesy tones of Rickie Lee Jones or Bonnie Raitt... this is, in my opinion, a waste of Diana's talent. After the magnificent tribute to the soft samba sound of the late 1960s and beautifully orchestrated arrangements from "The Look of Love", this single was a major let-down. If this "preview" is going to be typical of her upcoming album, I won't bother to buy it. While I applaud her testing new ground, this may NOT be the time to do that. Many fans will be disappointed we will not be treated to the beautiful and haunting tones she displayed in "Look". I was expecting Diana to record an album of the late Antonio Carlos Jobim's masterpieces orchestrated by Claus Ogerman or Johnny Mandell... that would be a shoe-in at the next Grammy awards and would be the perfect follow-through for "Love" .... and few artists can compare with her sensitive and silky voice that could do these neglected standards justice . I pray she stays on track with what few others can do instead of shifting towards a direction that may not suit her. I hope her original songs with Elvis Costello are better than this preview. I also hope she goes back and records some of the great standards in the way she recorded "Love".... those songs are so badly in need of Diana's voice to do them justice.By the way, this is a "single" in the classic sense.... as the early 45 r.p.m. vinyl records had 2 songs (one on each side), this CD has 2 songs as well. "Single" refers not to ONE song, but to the one song hit single records of days gone by which held 2 songs on it.

this is hands down the absolute best I've ever heard from Diana Krall - the track Temptation is amazing. the arrangement and musicianship impeccable...but Diana - the most sensual treatment I've heard from her to date....this is a 2 track tease for the new album i guess and they got me hooked! "I'll Never Be The Same" is not on the album and can only be purchased by buying the CD single (why is a 2 track CD called a single?) "temptation.....i just can't resist"......man o man o man....that is some track
