Progressive Rock with a metal edge,
By Samhain (Charlotte, NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tempted (Audio CD)
This band has embraced a musical dynamic not typically found in today's music. With brilliant use of colorful imagery and sound, Joshua's Whisper captures the imagination in an ideal setting using a colorful menagerie of sound speaking lyrically and idealistically of a world that is vs. a world that should be. Songs like "Maurd" come raging in like a lion and engage the passion with a rough sound set against a polished delivery. "Tempted" showcases the bands lyrical versatility and gives a sociological statement on the illusions that seduce the soul. "Just Say No More" speaks candidly of loss but in this critics opinion "Grief" steals the show as a staple of well constructed music with a songs that feels like a poem and sounds like a ballad. Gregg Bailes' guitar playing is second to none with a dynamic range and an easy negotiation with difficult time changes and Tim Bailes wide vocal range lends itself to an extraordinary degree in this well arranged and incredible sound for a debut CD. This band will make more than a buzz and is one to watch out for! Their follow up CD: "Drunk" due out next month is sure to be a winner.
