This review is from: Tempted in the Night (Night Slayer, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
I enjoyed the first book, Out of the Night, the second book Seduced by the Night was fairly good, but this book was third rate at best. I couldn't get into the characters. The plot was stupid. It just seemed to be thrown together. The author had to find a way to incorporate Detective John Boehler into being a Night Slayer by having him turned in the middle of the book. The man is now half human half vampire and he doesn't seem upset about it or have any plausible reaction to it. It was hurried and lacked action or suspense. The love story was pathetic. I did not care for this book at all. I don't know that I would invest in her next book. The series has lost most of it's earlier appeal. The first book was fresh, inventive, and had plenty of surprises and twists and turns. This last book was difficult to get through.

exciting paranormal romance,
This review is from: Tempted in the Night (Night Slayer, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
The Winslow family has been vampire slayers for centuries and knows how vampires are created. When a human is bitten by the legendary Chupacabra, the venom from the bite kills the victim and brings him back to life as a vampire. When there is not enough venom in the animal's bite the human becomes a half vampire or changeling with all the advantages of a vampire and very few of the disadvantages. When Jessica Winslow is chasing a vampire in the park she is stopped by Detective John Boehler who thinks she is crazy carrying a sword and intending to use it. He locks her up but before he can get some information from her, Simon Brody, who walked away a free man from a murder trial, is found killed in the park with John's badge near him. Because of the threats he made against Simon, John is suspended. He frees Jessica and takes her to his cousin's home where he admits that he knows the rash of killings of criminals is the work of the vampire. He wants to help them in their fight but first they must stake Simon before he turns; and kills indiscriminately just like he did in life. They fail and he develops an obsession for Jessica, a notion that fills John with fear because he cares deeply for her. When she goes to New Orleans to investigate a house filled with chupacabra, John follows her as does Simon. Robin T. Popp has written an exciting paranormal romance that is full of romance, action, and adventure. The way vampires are created adds another dimension to the vampiric legend and gives readers something new to sink their teeth into. The heroine is stubborn as is the hero and together they make a great pair as they fight evil. Harriet Klausner

I liked the first two books in this series, but I could not get into this one. I could not stand the heroine. The character was whinny, shallow, and immature. I still cannot understand what the hero saw in her. What could he have possibly desired? Every simple request he asked of her, she went against with no remorse or apologies. Even when her actions could have caused some one's death. I still think the first book was the best with characters that were more well-rounded in an exotic local. This book had none of those qualities.

This review is from: Tempted in the Night (Night Slayer, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
The first two in the series were fairly entertaining. This last entry made the series not worth reading anymore. From the first, Jessica Winslow was annoying with Detective John Boehler not much better. The characters were really cardboard and stired no emotion except irritation. I skipped the middle and went to the end.Readers are encouraged to try J. R. Ward's series or that written by Marjorie Liu. Nalini Singh has also started a wonderful new series. All are well written and entertaining. Right now there seems to be a dearth of new paranormal books published. "Tempted in the Night" is really not worth the effort.

Robin T. Popp brings us yet another thrilling adventure in this her latest Night Slayer book, Tempted in the Night.Beautiful brunette Jessica Winslow lives with one obsession--destroying as many vampires as she can. Her lust for revenge has its roots in her childhood, when she witnessed one of the undead brutally kill her own mother. Now, she will stop at nothing to seek justice and protect innocent victims from the same fate. Detective John Boehler has one aim in mind--finding a savage serial killer who's terrorizing the D.C. area. That is, until a group of strange vigilantes called the Exsanguinators capture the criminal and leave his body devoid of blood. There's only one problem: What happens when the serial killer awakens as one of the undead? In spite of their mutual attraction, which threatens to do them more harm than good, Jessica and John join forces to destroy the serial killer vampire...but at what price? Are they ready to fall into darkness and lose their souls to achieve their goal? The story starts with an exciting scenario, grabbing the reader into the world of the characters, then maintains a rather quick pace until the end. There are enough romance and supernatural thrills to keep fans of the genre happy. Popp creates her own chupacabra myth and hierarchy of vampires, adding a certain level of originality to the plot. The only aspect of the novel that didn't work for me was characterization. Jessica, though sympathetic, somehow didn't come through enough to make me care her predicament. I had problems with the hero as well, mainly because of character inconsistencies--he seems to behave like two different men in the first and second parts of the book. These two problems made me lose connection to the plot during the second half of the story. Armchair Interviews says: All in all, this is an entertaining book that will be enjoyed by most fans of vampire romance.

Jessica Winslow's first meeting with Detective John Boehler is less than auspicious; he arrests her and puts her in a cell for the criminally insane. After all, she was tearing through his city with a sword. What he did not know was that she was hunting vampires. That would have made all the difference. He's also determined to stop vampires, one in particular, a killer he let go. They find themselves working together in a united cause, but things are more deadly than either had ever anticipated. Along with the heros and heroines from the past Nightslayer books, the duo has a mission that will change or end their lives. Perhaps a bit of both.**** Action and romance keep the pages flying to a heart-stopping conclusion. The world of the Nightslayers develops and becomes more detailed in this book. Shades of grey add new depth and one of the most fascinating secondary characters to date plays a large role in this installment of the saga. You will be left wanting more. **** Amanda Killgore

I have really been enjoying Robin Popp's series since the beginning. With the third book, she expands her world of vampires and the creatures that create them. She adds depth to the world that makes me want to know more and experience more within it. I am looking forward to the next book with greate anticipation as the world grows. On top of the great work of world building that she is doing, her characters are real to me, and I especially symapthize with the vampire Harris - and understand his connection that he developes with the Jessice and John. Meanwhile, Harris turns Jessica's world on end - since for her - a dead vampire is the only good vampire. And I am happy that John isn't so left the dark finally. I felt so bad for him in the second book. If you haven't read the first two books - read them! And then read this one! I recommend all of them for vampire romance lovers! - or even just romance lovers!

I loved this story. It's got all the elements of a mystery, adventure, and romance in it, while still being fresh. Even though it's billed as a paranormal romance, it's not written strictly for women, as so many others are. The story is written for anyone to enjoy.Robin has a stong grasp on her characters and narrative. The story moves quickly, and it's hard to put down. I think it's best to start with the first book in this series "Out of the Night", but this book does stand well on its own. Robin's writing style reminds me of James Patterson and Dean Koontz. I think anyone who enjoys romance or suspense novels will love Robin's books. Cathy Grant

and a "hero" that is almost in the same league. Truly a match made in heaven??? The first two books were interesting but I could hardly get through the third. The teaser at the end for Night Slayer #4 seemed like the heroine was cut from the same cloth (but then she is a friend/relative of Jess from NS #3). Needless to say, I'll save my money. After all, there is better reading material out there to spend it on!
