5.0 out of 5 stars Has Dani found her Soulmate?

What a wonderful conclusion to the Buchanan series! All 3 brothers, Cal & Walker & Reid have found their soulmates so Dani would like to, too.

It's been a lousy year she hasn't had the best of luck with men. There was that lousy cheating husband that she divorced, that charming but married man then to top it off the ex-priest who was a nice man...

5.0 out of 5 stars Has Dani found her Soulmate?, June 29, 2007
This review is from: Tempting (The Buchanans, Book 4) (Mass Market Paperback)

What a wonderful conclusion to the Buchanan series! All 3 brothers, Cal & Walker & Reid have found their soulmates so Dani would like to, too.

It's been a lousy year she hasn't had the best of luck with men. There was that lousy cheating husband that she divorced, that charming but married man then to top it off the ex-priest who was a nice man but wanted Dani to help him there this hard time for him LOL

Dani finds out she isn't a Buchanan really. Her mother had an affair with a this man and she was the outcome of the affair. The Buchanan grandmother, Gloria, has finally told her in a very cruel way of this but now Gloria is trying to be a nice and kind person after her death scare and tells her the man's name. Dani can hardly believe it but does go looking for him.

The story opens with Dani and the adopted son, Alex, of the U.S. Senator Mark Canfield going round and round with sparks flying when she is trying to see the Senator without telling the exact reason she'd like to see him. The Senator happens upon this exchange and hears Dani say the Senator may be her birth father. The Senator is exploring running for President and this will be not a good thing to come out.

Dani meets the Senator but thought there would be an instant feeling of love and understanding but there isn't on her part. The Senator wants to talk about her mother-he doesn't even know Dani can hardly remember her.

The Senator has been married to Katherine since right after Marsha broke off their affair. Katherine and he have adopted 8 children, most with special needs, and have enjoyed their life together even though he has been a politician most of it. Mark wants Dani to be part of his life and Katherine has to learn to like Dani. Dani admires Katherine so much she doesn't even realize that Katherine has her reservations about this *new* daughter. Dani's not sure she needs this new family though.

Dani and Alex try to ignore each other, really even with the sparks flying. They both see what a mess this would create for Mark and Katherine.

This is the story of Dani finding her soulmate and Alex learning to love again with all his heart. This book made me cry, laugh and love each character and there are so many to care about. Katherine and her children are so special Dani can only love them.

As with all of Ms Mallery's book this is a fun and loving book. I've enjoyed all 4 of the Buchanan books DELICIOUS (Cal & Penny),
IRRESISTABLE (Walker & Elissa), SIZZLING (Reid & Lori) and now TEMPTING. I recommend them!

1.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing (spoilers), November 25, 2007
This review is from: Tempting (The Buchanans, Book 4) (Mass Market Paperback)
I know I'm in the minority with this review, but I really disliked this book. This book shows Dani Buchannan finding her biological father and falling in love with her father's adopted son. There was no spark between the heroine and the hero, and that the writing was horrible e.g when Dani calls Alex 'dragon boy'. I felt Katherine's and the Senator's relationship could have been fleshed out more, and that Katherine should have left him in the end. (Yes, I was hoping for a seperation in a romance novel!)

I thought Dani was stupid for believing Fiona, Alex's ex and Alex was silly for not letting his family know that Fiona was a cheating psychopath. But hey, what's a romance without a silly misunderstanding and a silly heroine. Even sillier was Alex and Dani worrying about the campaign because of her discovery, then decide to have 'hot monkey sex'. (WHO uses the phrase 'hot monkey sex'?!)

In closing, I also think it lame that I will get inundated with 'no helps' just because I'm writing an honest (if simple sounding) review.

Sorry guys, this book IMO, deserves 1 star.

3.0 out of 5 stars I expected more, October 4, 2007

This review is from: Tempting (The Buchanans, Book 4) (Mass Market Paperback)
I enjoyed the first three books of this series and was really looking forward to Dani's story. The book starts off promising but then just seems to get dull and repetitive. I missed the romance (Alex did seem like a hottie - why not show more? and the fact that Dani really did have a life outside of taking Alex's sister for shoes in the mall. Overall, this book wasn't terrible but it wasn't one I'd want to give to a friend. Disappointing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fitting conclusion to the Buchanan series, July 10, 2007

This review is from: Tempting (The Buchanans, Book 4) (Mass Market Paperback)
In the previous Buchanan books, it was revealed that Dani Buchanan was the result of an affair her mother had with Senator Mark Canfield, which is what caused the rift between Dani and family matriarch (and grandmother) Gloria. As Dani tries to meet her birth father, his adoptive son (and campaign manager) Alex won't let her in to meet the presidential candidate without a legitimate reason. When she drops the bombshell, Mark is accepting, while Alex and the rest of the campaign staff try to keep the revelation under wraps. Mark's long suffering wife Katherine, who was never able to bear children but adopted a brood of eight, feels that Dani is the ultimate slap in the face. When the media breaks the story, Katherine must put on the stoic face and accept Dani. When Alex and Dani act on their attraction to each other, the media catches them in an uncompromising position, adding further problems for Mark's bid for the White House, particularly when they start to fall in love.

The Buchanan brothers and the wives are back and support Dani's quest to find her birth father, while still considering her a genuine Buchanan, as Alex's ex-wife Fiona connives to break the couple apart. Also on hand is Gloria who is completely out of character, and supportive of the granddaughter she treated like crud for the first three novels. Mallery has penned a sensual and great conclusion to the Buchanan saga (after the misstep with "Sizzling") despite not remaining true to Gloria's character and an implausible request of her husband on Katherine's part.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Ending to the Buchanan Series!, July 7, 2007
By
Marilyn Shoemaker (Seattle, Washington) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tempting (The Buchanans, Book 4) (Mass Market Paperback)
Tempting was just that from the moment Dani Buchanan entered the Senator's office to find out if he was her biological father. What she didn't expect was to run head on into the handsome and sexy Alex Canfield, the Senator's adoptive son. Dani's luck with men during the past few years was a disaster......a failed marriage, a cheating and lying married man; she was his victim, and then meeting an ex-priest, what a mess. So Dani decided she would swear off men and would concentrate on her new job and finding out if Senator Canfield was her biological father.

The only way to describe this book was an emotional one for me and the end of Susan Mallery's incredible Buchanan family series. The past books sum up my thoughts, Delicious, Irresistible and Sizzling. In each former book you meet Dani's strong and callous Grandmother Gloria and her three brothers, Cal, Walker and Reid all of whom are involved in Buchanan Enterprises and run a chain of restaurants, a coffee company and a sports bar.

Dani you'll learn is the only family member other than her sister-in-law Penny in having a career with Buchanan Enterprises. The others are blackmailed by their "nasty" grandmother Gloria into helping save the business and when Gloria becomes seriously ill, they all rise to the cause and pitch in to help out Cal takes over the Waterfront Restaurant, Walker runs the corporation, Reid moves into to the mansion to help out with Gloria and her recovery. However, Dani is hurt that all of her years trying to impress her Grandmother have been for nothing. In the end when Gloria strikes out and tells Dani, she's not really a Buchanan and that her mother had an affair and she was the product of it, she's plain and simply devastated.

Of course, she takes stalk in her life, swears off men, begins a new job in a new restaurant and sets out to find out who she is with her brothers and sister-in-laws giving her the love and support she needs. During this "discovery" time, her Grandmother realizes with the help of her nurse that she needs to appreciate her family and Gloria rises to the cause, by making amends with her grandsons, their wives and makes strides to mend her relationship with her granddaughter, Dani. The bond these two women form will make you weep!

Tempting is about family, trust, temptation, healing and the power of love. But most of all about family and discovery! I applaud Susan Mallery on her very powerful series, one I will long remember!

4.0 out of 5 stars A final visit with the Buchanan's, November 3, 2011
By
For Love and Books "Jac" (PUEBLO, CO, United States) - See all my reviews
3.5 Stars, rounded up.

Susan Mallery is my go-to for contemporary romance novels! I adore her writing, and have yet to meet a character/story I don't just adore! The Buchanan's have earned a special place in my heart now that I've finished this series!

I have loved following Dani through the series, and was excited to see her storyline wrap up! I'm so glad that she found her biological father, although I have to admit that I was disappointed with him as a whole. But his family? I loved them all, and was so glad that they embraced Dani so fully.

I also have to say that I loved Gloria in this, I loved that she pushed Dani to be a better person, and that her turn around has come full circle.

I do have to say that I was a bit disappointed in a few things. First and foremost, the lack of Buchanan interaction! (Come on, we didn't even really get to "see" Walker!!) I thought the other three books had done so much to intertwine the family, and this one just left them hanging. I also didn't care for Alex being Dani's brother, even if it was only by adoption... That was a bit too close for comfort for my liking.

In the end? I loved Tempting, although I really felt like it was it's own book and not so much part of the Buchanan series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious, Irresistible, & Sizzling, October 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Delicious, Irresistible, & Sizzling are the first 3 of the 4 Buchanan novels. Tempting the fourth Buchanan novel is about the youngest sibling. And the titles don't lie. I absolutely love this saga of 4 siblings. All the characters are smart, witty, and completely human. The individual stories are funny, touching, and loving. Some of Susan Mallery's best work (comparable to the Bakery Sisters Trilogy).

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable!, October 24, 2011
I enjoyed the relationships between Dani and her brothers. it took me a little while to warm up to the hero and heroine, but I was happy to say by the end of the book I was rooting for them to have a happy ending. Nicely done!

3.0 out of 5 stars had potential..., July 13, 2011
I wanted to like this book more, but had trouble getting past the whole brother-sister thing (even though they weren't related by blood and didn't grow up together). I also had trouble believing the motives behind some of the secondary characters actions. The Buchanans series up until this point had been better, should have ended with #3.
