5.0 out of 5 stars A very good reissue, October 14, 2006

Reissued in "Intimate Danger" duet from Harlequin By Request in 2002.

Faith Newlin is the director of a non-profit feline rescue way station; big cats are healed, rehabilitated or just moved on to their next home after a stopover at the station. Faith loves her work but she wants to open a facility to breed snow leopards in North Dakota someday. It'll take a lot of money and filling out a mountain of paperwork to meet all the bureaucratic guidelines.

The last thing she needs is a pair of rare white tiger cubs. They were rescued from a smuggler who was bringing them to a big game collector in the U.S. As a favor to a friend in the government she agrees to keep the cubs until a new home can be arranged for them. The friend sends Cort Hollenbeck, a government agent, along to provide security at the way station.

Cort needs time to heal from his last assignment, a mission that wounded his body and blanked his memory. In a very short time Cort discovers Faith is not the plain, easy to forget woman he thought she was. Instead she's a strong, dedicated and determined woman with more courage than most people have.

Set somewhere in the California mountains, the endangered species recovery storyline was great. Terrific interaction between Cort and Faith. Also Cort's flaws and Faith's acceptance and forgiveness of them are very well done. Can't think of a thing I'd change.

3.0 out of 5 stars fun, funny, not my fav, October 26, 2011
This Susan Mallery is on par with her other novels about warriors and/or broken down heroes. The storyline is well written, seems well researched, if not particularly believable. The romance seemed a bit forced and rushed, but the story had her usual smoothness and witty characters. Not her worst or best work overall, it was so-so.
