3.0 out of 5 stars Three and a half stars, good story but heroine is a bit too immature
I am a little torn about how to rate Tempting the Marquess. Parts of it were really lovely and then others, due mostly to the heroine, were less than stellar. Overall this rates 3 ½ stars.

Oh my, Sara Lindsey has done it again. This book was so much more than just a romance. It was a story of moving on for a person that had lost the person that was once te most important to him and learning how to love again, because it is possible. I adored Livvy, she was an absolute joy to read about. She knew what she wanted and she set out to get it, even if there were those few snags in between. The Marquess was a wonderful character and I felt for him more than once. *sigh* So delicious! The poor man was left alone with a child and a pain so great that he was obliterated by the time Livvy made her way to him. Though, she helps him and their love blossoms into something much more beautiful that either could have ever imagined. Glorious book that I thoroughly enjoyed. Oh, I also really liked the characters of Aunt Kate and Charles. They added so much more to the book and balanced it out ver nicely.

3.0 out of 5 stars Three and a half stars, good story but heroine is a bit too immature, June 4, 2010
This review is from: Tempting the Marquess: A Weston Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
I am a little torn about how to rate Tempting the Marquess. Parts of it were really lovely and then others, due mostly to the heroine, were less than stellar. Overall this rates 3 ½ stars.

Olivia Weston (Livvy) has decided to save a man from himself. She arrives at Lord Jason Traherne's Welsh home in the company of her aunt; Jason is her aunt's stepson. Livvy feels she almost knows Jason through a diary left behind by his deceased wife that she discovered when she was organizing an estate library. Livvy read the diary and came to the decision that Jason needed her.

Jason on the other hand believes he does not need anyone and he is more than put out that Livvy has invited herself to his home. He is reclusive and not welcoming. Moreover, he is sparring quickly with Livvy as she has a tendency to forget that she is a guest in his house and engages in a verbal match with him within a day.

Jason can be chauvinistic but that is a malady most peers possessed in his time period. What distinguishes him from other peers is his deep love and affection for his son and his appreciation for a woman's quick wit. He has a teasing nature with no malicious intent.

Livvy can be trying. I believe she is eighteen or nineteen and she acts like it. This was a bit of a surprise as her inner thoughts are of a much more mature young woman, her actions, though do not match. She is idealistic to the point of being a perfectionist, love has to be perfect with a perfect hero in a perfect setting, and she expects this even though she is far from perfect herself. Livvy is supposed to be rational and a planner yet there is very little forethought in some of her actions.

What is really admirable in this novel is the basic story of a man carrying a heavy load from his past who needs the affection, love and patience of a strong woman to help him release weighty issues. In this regard, the novel works well; it's just that heroine Livvy gets in the way of this a little too much with immature conversations and plans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly entertaining, a joy to read!, April 22, 2011
This is the second book in the series. I really enjoyed the first book, the author's debut, and was excited to see how both the author and the story developed. I am now hooked! Very refreshing writing for a genre that is so plentiful. The dialogue is very witty, I actually laughed out loud in several spots. It is just plain fun to read.

One thing I appreciated is that only a minimal amount of time involved prior characters... if you haven't read the first book, you will have no problems reading this one. However, the first book in the series was such a joy, I highly recommend that you read it; it will give you a little more depth in the story and characters. I was so disappointed when I finished # 2 because I didn't want it to end, I actually went and re-read the first book and enjoyed it just as much the second time!

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the story, the characters and the witty writing. I cannot wait for additional books in the series to come out, they cannot be released fast enough for me!

5.0 out of 5 stars winderful Weston woman's witty war, June 2, 2010
This review is from: Tempting the Marquess: A Weston Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
In 1798 Lady Olivia Weston is about to have her debut London season. A die hard romantic, Olivia is pragmatic as she knows she will marry out of need not desire. However, she can dream of an adventure with one of the hunks who star in her readings.

Olivia and her aunt head to Wales for Christmas. When she meets Lord Jason Traherne, father of an ailing child, she thinks he stepped out of one of her books as a menacing hero. As she tries to understand the man, she falls in love as does he. However, she believes deep in her hurting heart he still loves his late wife and has not moved passed her death.

The latest Weston Regency romance (see Promise Me Tonight) is an engaging tale mostly due to Olivia who is the late eighteenth century version of Bonnie Tyler's song "I Need a Hero". However, she soon learns the other side of holding out for a hero as he has traits that are not endearing to her; on the other hand his kisses are. Sub-genre readers will relish this Weston woman's witty war for love with her reluctant hero.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tempting the Marquess by Sara Lindsey, June 2, 2010
This review is from: Tempting the Marquess: A Weston Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
Olivia Weston is ready for an adventure and when her Aunt Jane invites her to her step son Jason's house, Olivia is ecstatic. Earlier, while organizing the library Livvy stumbles across a diary belonging to Jason's late wife. Livvy is immediately intrigued by its contents. She decides she must meet Jason, a man who has lived the past years in grief, raising his son and pushing everyone else away. Livvy, a romantic at heart, wants to mend Jason, and break him out of his shell.

When Livvy accompanies Aunt Jane and they arrive on his door step, tempers flare. Jason is very suspicious of Livvy and also can't understand why his body starts to betray him. But Livvy's presence soon becomes much more than just an annoyance.

Tempting The Marquess is a cute book but also one that never really drew me in. I found it to be a bit slow and it has a heroine, Livvy that is immature. At times she came across cute, naive, and charming. Other times she grated on my nerves and I found her young ways to be annoying. She has grand notions of saving and rescuing Jason, who she only knows through entries in his late wife's diary. She builds Jason up in her head and sees "fixing him" as a grand adventure. She boldly goes into his house and starts interfering in his life and his son's life. Jason is set-up to be the grief stricken, cold host and at times I think his character forgets that. Their love-hate relationship never really takes hold. Jason seesaws between lusting after Livvy, to guilt over his dead wife. The ending conflict is very predictable as well.

While Livvy didn't sit well with me at times, other times she came across very likable. She is a temptress and very eager to explore the physical side of her attraction to Jason. When Jason's kiss doesn't meet her standards, she demands he do it again. I enjoyed this side of Livvy, although she is the virgin heroine, she is not shy and it was very cute.

Tempting The Marquess definitely has its ups and downs but this one didn't leave a big impact with me.

3.0 out of 5 stars No plot to speak of, June 21, 2010

The author has a wonderful way with characters and dialogue, but the heroine is a ditz, to put it kindly, and there is no plot to speak of. I hesitated before writing this review because, in a way, I believe every author should get 5 stars just for the tremendous work of writing a book and getting it published. However, I spend my hard-earned money on books and expect a good story when I buy any book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent - well written! - 2nd book in the A Weston Series, June 27, 2010

This book is so great that I got up early on vacation to finish the book!

This is the second book by this author the first was Promise Me Tonight: A Weston Novel. In this historical romance it's Olivia Weston's story. Olivia finds Jason Traherne deceased wife's diary and broach and seeks off to meet the mysterious man. Jason Traherne the Marguuess of Sheldon is a dark character who wants nothing to do with 'company' but slowing Olivia gets him out of dark mood. Just when I though the story was wrapped up in the little happy bow - it takes another great turn - great writing.

Can't wait for her next novel 'A Rogue for all Season' due out January 2011.
