5.0 out of 5 stars The book that made me a fan of Carolyn Davidson, April 13, 2003
By A Customer
After a long hiatus from reading romance, I happened to pick up this book and have been thoroughly delighted by finding such a wonderful author. "Tempting a Texan" is a sweet story about Nicholas Garvey and Carlinda "Lin" Donnelly who are brought together by Nicholas's orphaned niece, Amanda. Although Nicholas grew up fending for himself on the streets of New York City, he is now a successful banker in Collins Creek, Texas. Carlinda was reared in an unhappy home, is virtually alone in the world, and was a close friend of Amanda's deceased mother. Her mission in bringing Amanda to Texas is to unite her with her Uncle Nicholas although she dreads the thought of losing Amanda. Lin and Amanda bring out the caring, protective instincts in Nicholas and he and Lin are soon married and embroiled in a plot to protect Amanda from danger. This book is full of likeable characters such as Jonathan and Augusta Cleary from "The Texan" and Nicholas's housekeeper, Katie. It's fun to watch Nicholas change from a citified banker to a rancher. The development of Nicholas and Carlinda's relationship is a delight -- full of anticipation and sensual tension. A must read and a keeper to boot!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, solid story., March 14, 2003
By A Customer
Back Cover description: SUDDENLY...FATHERHOOD! Or close enough, anyway. Wealthy banker Nicholas Garvey was stunned to learn he was now the legal guardian of a niece he hadn't known he had. But the bigger surprise was the child's beguiling nanny, Carlinda Donnelly, a woman who effortlessly made him yearn for the unexpected pleasures of hearth, home...and heartfelt love!
He called her Lin-a nickname short, sweet, even innocent. But Carlinda Donnelly knew Nicholas Garvey's intentions were anything but! What he wanted was as clear as the wide Texas sky. This complex man with a past had definite plans for her future-all of which made her blood race, her heart pound and her passions soar!

This book starts slow and builds up to a good story. The characters keep your attention and you start to care about and for them. A minor mystery--will the villain get the child, and good sexual tension. There are two questions that go unanswered; one about how the sister got pregnant and the other about Nicholas' early life

5.0 out of 5 stars A ROMANCE - THE KIND DREAMS ARE MADE OF --, January 11, 2005

(REAL NAME)
Oh, my goodness, I find that this is the 3rd of 4 books.

We meet a beatiful Carlinda who is delivering a child to Nicholas Garvey in Collins Creek, Texas.
Nick has left the streets of New York and made a life for himself, with the help of a benefactor, as the owner of Collins Creek bank.

It is a bit far fetched to accept the child, Amanda as his niece as he doesn't have a sister. Yet Linnie is insistant that Amanda is his blood relation.

The mystery of her parentage is slowly revealed through the danger visited upon Linnie and Amanda from the mysterious Man in New York.
Another mystery is Nick's father.

One thing Nicholas Garvey is certain of is that he will have Lin in his bed before she leaves. I love the ins and outs of Lin's resistance to Nick's advances and his ackward courtship of a woman he doesn't want to marry. At 35 he is pushing it!

The sheriff, Cleary [from The Texan] just sort of snuck up me. I didn't recognize him. He is one of Nick's better friends and helps out when Carlinda and Amanda are threatened.

All Lin wants of Nick is to be loved, not just a convenience in his bed. She already loves Amanda and would love to be her mother.

I really enjoyed her introduction to Faith Hudson and am looking forward to Faith's story in Texas Gold - those gals really proved themselves with their guns. I guess the villians thought they could walk all over these women.

Definitely a great story - and our ladies stict to their guns and don't just hop into bed with their would-be seducers. Way to go gals! You got back bone! [and self-respect]

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - ANOTHER GREAT SET
