Book Description

July 25, 2006

Nairn O'Banyon has had a couple of bad centuries. Back in the Middle Ages, he was a feared warrior, a charming womanizer, and a...well...he was strictly human. But a dark curse has made him a changed man. In fact, during moments of great passion, he becomes the feral hound his conquests oft accused him of being. And if that isn't bad enough, another brush with the black arts has thrust him into a time frame other than his own. Thus it is that he finds himself in the Prince Regent's elegant London.

Brave, adaptable and utterly charming, O'Banyon is determined to enjoy life wherever it leads. In fact, he realizes he can live quite happily amid the posh ton if he avoids highly passionate encounters, keeps his secrets to himself, and limits his saturated fats. And so he does, until he meets the one woman he cannot resist, and learns she possesses the singular quality he fears more than death itself. Magic.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

In her latest, Greiman re-enters the Regency world introduced in Taming the Barbarian, which mixes high society and the supernatural. Nairn O'Banyon, a centuries-old lass-crazy werewolf known as the "Irish Hound," is struggling with the curse that transforms him into a bestial killer and the ladies who threaten to trigger it with their lusty advances. Meanwhile, Antoinette Desbonnet, countess of Colline, is wrestling with a curse of her own—everyone she touches comes to harm, including her late husband and estranged son. So when O'Banyon and Antoinette meet and fall instantly in love, they begin a dogged fight against the passion between them. Both strong and witty characters, the two are supported by the equally engaging stars of the first volume: the Black Celt Hiltsglen—O'Banyon's best friend—and Hiltsglen's wife, Fleurette. Greiman uses sensual details to make the simplest scenes shine—especially when she gets into the head of the beastly O'Banyon—and the sex, when the heroes finally succumb, is dangerous and delicious. Though the narrative moves fitfully, for readers who enjoy paranormal and historical romance—and who don't mind their banter rendered in revolving English, Scottish and Irish dialects (" 'As any nidget can see, ye've na more strength than a swaddled bairn,' he said")—Greiman brings the genre goods. 2.0 out of 5 stars The hero saved it., August 11, 2006

This review is from: Tempting the Wolf (Mass Market Paperback)
This was my first book by Lois Greiman and I am extremely torn. I absolutely loved the hero. He was charismatic and charming without the brooding alpha male persona we read so much of these days. However, I feel those of you looking for a werewolf/paranormal read will be disappointed. The author gives us mere glimpses of the immortal side of O'Banyon.

As for the heroine; I found her totally unlikeable and her dual personalities was just one more nail in the proverbial coffin. There was little sexual tension between the leads and the heroine was the broody one throughout 99% of the novel. The love scene, which mercifully came at almost the end, was very rushed.

By the end of the novel, I wasn't left satisfied and for a hero that had such a "love for the lassies" I can't understand how he was either. The editing was terrible with the "Irish" (I use the term lightly) dialect changing from one page to the next as well as the character's name at one point. "Whitford" becomes "Whitmore". "O'Banyon" was referred to as "Banyon" sometimes.

TTB started out on a high note and I loved how it was told mostly from O'Banyon's pov. I was excited to read a werewolf romance, but this was not even a secondary story but just glanced upon. TTB was more gothic with paranormal undertones. Overall not a keeper for me.

2.0 out of 5 stars Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda, August 19, 2006

Coulda been great. The premise was very interesting. Two otherworldly people find each other. Unfortunately, the author just didn't do anything with the great plot she had. There were numerous hints about 'things' but nothing really happened until the end and by then it was just too late.

She shoulda softened up the heroine a bit before the very end of the story. And I'm talking the very end. Like the last few pages. There's lots of conflict within Fayette (the Countess) but outwardly she remains cold till the end. Not the best way to start that everlasting love thing.

Woulda liked this a lot more if the one love scene hadn't been towards the end and rushed. Not to mention I was left confused and unsure as to what the whole thing was about. You really do just get hints about him turning wolf or her healing/killing. How old is O'Banyon anyway? Is the curse lifted now? How does she kill people? Does she kill people? I'm really not sure.

I'm left with the feeling that the author should have either 1. really fixed up this story or 2. written part II to explain part I.

Well well well lets see...Did not hold my intrest I really do not know why I finished the book at all maybe becasue I was still holding out hope which well it just did not happen book sucked story sucked sex sucked characters sucked I mean who approved of this story ever getting printed? God oh yeah and if that is not enough only one sex scene I mean if you are only going to write on sex scene in you book make it a good one not just one page and that is it! Will be trading which yeah I know I got burnt again! I will probably only get maybe sixty cents out of it and I paid 5 dollars! Man I waste alot of money. One star for well I really wish Amazon would let you give no stars it was really that bad. Save your money and buy J.R. Ward's Dark Lover,Lover Eternal,Lover Awakened now you will actually get something worth reading for your money.
