The hero saved it.,
By Viv (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tempting the Wolf (Mass Market Paperback)
This was my first book by Lois Greiman and I am extremely torn. I absolutely loved the hero. He was charismatic and charming without the brooding alpha male persona we read so much of these days. However, I feel those of you looking for a werewolf/paranormal read will be disappointed. The author gives us mere glimpses of the immortal side of O'Banyon.
As for the heroine; I found her totally unlikeable and her dual personalities was just one more nail in the proverbial coffin. There was little sexual tension between the leads and the heroine was the broody one throughout 99% of the novel. The love scene, which mercifully came at almost the end, was very rushed. By the end of the novel, I wasn't left satisfied and for a hero that had such a "love for the lassies" I can't understand how he was either. The editing was terrible with the "Irish" (I use the term lightly) dialect changing from one page to the next as well as the character's name at one point. "Whitford" becomes "Whitmore". "O'Banyon" was referred to as "Banyon" sometimes. TTB started out on a high note and I loved how it was told mostly from O'Banyon's pov. I was excited to read a werewolf romance, but this was not even a secondary story but just glanced upon. TTB was more gothic with paranormal undertones. Overall not a keeper for me.

Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda,

Coulda been great. The premise was very interesting. Two otherworldly people find each other. Unfortunately, the author just didn't do anything with the great plot she had. There were numerous hints about 'things' but nothing really happened until the end and by then it was just too late.
She shoulda softened up the heroine a bit before the very end of the story. And I'm talking the very end. Like the last few pages. There's lots of conflict within Fayette (the Countess) but outwardly she remains cold till the end. Not the best way to start that everlasting love thing. Woulda liked this a lot more if the one love scene hadn't been towards the end and rushed. Not to mention I was left confused and unsure as to what the whole thing was about. You really do just get hints about him turning wolf or her healing/killing. How old is O'Banyon anyway? Is the curse lifted now? How does she kill people? Does she kill people? I'm really not sure. I'm left with the feeling that the author should have either 1. really fixed up this story or 2. written part II to explain part I.

Well well well lets see...Did not hold my intrest I really do not know why I finished the book at all maybe becasue I was still holding out hope which well it just did not happen book sucked story sucked sex sucked characters sucked I mean who approved of this story ever getting printed? God oh yeah and if that is not enough only one sex scene I mean if you are only going to write on sex scene in you book make it a good one not just one page and that is it! Will be trading which yeah I know I got burnt again! I will probably only get maybe sixty cents out of it and I paid 5 dollars! Man I waste alot of money. One star for well I really wish Amazon would let you give no stars it was really that bad. Save your money and buy J.R. Ward's Dark Lover,Lover Eternal,Lover Awakened now you will actually get something worth reading for your money.

Another Wonderfulf Read from Lois Greiman!,

This review is from: Tempting the Wolf (Mass Market Paperback)
Nairn O'Banyon is a warrior with a secret. His love of women has become his curse, literally, and for him to break his curse he must find true love. This is problematic for the Irish Hound, who finds the fair sex tempting and whose own sex appeal tempts every woman he meets. Every women, that is, except Antionette Debonnet. This woman is a mystery, an enigma and the first women to truly tempt O'Banyon in centuries. She can sense his desire and still she keeps him at arm's length, avoiding even his touch. A fit challenge for the Irish Hound.
Antoinette Desbonnet lives most of her life in seclusion, tending to her garden and to those under her care. And to the haunting secret that she alone must bear. She spies the famed Irish Hound across a ballroom floor and sparks fly. Yet she cannot chance getting close to him. She cannot let him get into her world and let him love her. This is her curse, her cross to bear. Antoinette has a beautiful otherworldly essence and possesses a magic that no one, including herself, can understand. Yet somehow O'Banyon does. He knows her soul is pure and that beneath her brave and independent front, she is lost and alone. In TEMPTING THE WOLF, Lois Greiman has done it again!. The plot is fast paced, the storyline wrapped in intrigue and magic, and her characters well drawn and bold. The theme of temptation plays out for both characters and are woven masterfully through the plot to a more than satisfying conclusion. The dark corners of this story are balanced well with O'Banyon's wit and charming brand of humor.

This book was so bad, I didn't even bother to finish it. I put it up for sale on Amazon's marketplace, almost as soon as I stopped reading it. Thankfully, I purchased it right after it was released. However, I did manage to recuperate some of my hard earned money.
I am SO lucky I sold it a while back. I looked today and it's fetching 20 cents on the Amazon marketplace. This is a sure sign of a really HORRIBLE book. In a few weeks, it'll be worth a penny. (People tend to keep the really good ones, therefore rendering less of them to sell. They tend to be worth more.) Trust me, don't waste your time. Boy, I really wish Amazon would let us rate books 0 stars.

This book has prompted my first Amazon review. I was surfing... looking for Lois Greiman's Taming the Barbarian book when I came across the reviews on this book (Tempting the Wolf). At first I wondered... Is there something wrong with me? I loved this story! So, I clicked over to the romantic times book reviews website and found that Tempting the Wolf received 4 1/2 stars. RELIEF... Nothing is wrong with me! There is a reason for this very high rating from Romantic Times. Lois Greiman can write. I think she did an excellent job of building anticipation and sexual tension within this story. One of the main questions of the story was... BECAUSE of their curses HOW COULD the hero and heroine possibly get together? Sure it had only one love scene... but because of the nature of curses that both the hero and heroine possessed... it pretty much HAD to be that way. Trying not to spoil the story... I will say that I thought the way she handled their curses in the end was pretty unique compared to how most other authors handle something like this. It certainly worked for me.
Note: I am only a subscriber to Romantic Times Book Reviews and I do not know Lois Greiman... this was the first book I have ever read by her... I will definitely read her Taming the Barbarian story AND her Scottish Historicals.

I was really looking forward to reading this book. But it just left me flat
The love story was lacking, the "love scene" (only one) lacking, the characters were lacking. And way too much with the scots or Irish-style dialect. "What did he just say"???? And is he or isn/t he a wolf? I would have loved a bit more explained. I guess over all, the only thing for sure is I was confused and disappointed.

SSSlow , annoying and hard to follow,
By
This review is from: Tempting the Wolf (Mass Market Paperback)
Although other sources rated this novel highly, the entire reason I bought it, it was a total disappointment for my tastes.
First, much of the conversation is in either Scots or Irish-style dialect. That is a hard trick to pull off and here it simply becomes annoying. Then the nationality of the dialect starts to become almost identical--so some backtracking needed to be done to see which character is talking. Also, this paranormal genre is well-thought out in other books, so here it's a little flaky. Finally, the lead male and female characters seem too "rough around the edges" for a typical London "ton" book. They seem out of time and place. Overall, a weak effort--where the heck did I put my sales slip for a return?

Yum!,

I really liked this book and I loved O'Banyon, the hero, right from the start. O'Banyon is irresistible, a hot-blooded charmer who takes pleasure in the company of all women. I found myself charmed by his combination of unshakeable confidence and self-deprecating humor. I was intrigued by his history and his special powers. It was fun to watch his character change as he found himself falling for a mysterious and elusive woman with intriguing powers and a past of her own. I also enjoyed the clever banter between the characters. In short, it's an enthralling and fast-paced read. I stayed up very late to finish it--and it was worth it!
