This is not my beautiful stylus!,

My expectations on what a stylus is and how it is used were largely developed from three types of devices:
- Palm's (and Handspring's) venerable line of devices, starting way back with the Palm Pilot in 1997, up through my current Palm Centro. - An Apple Newton. (Yes, really.) - Various Wacom graphics tablets throughout the years. Based upon my experiences with these types of devices, I'd come to expect a stylus to basically be a pen that can be used on a digital screen or surface. I expect to be able to hold a stylus in essential the same manner as a I would a pen, and everything after that should be as natural as writing with any other device. This is not the case with the Ten One Design Pogo Stylus for the iPod Touch or the iPhone. [See footnote 1 below.] Because the iDevice's screens use capacitive touch screens, they're designed for sensing finger-tip sized interaction, not pen-tip sized interaction. Perhaps that's part of the reason behind the design of the Pogo Stylus, which provides capacitance-conducting material only on its flat tip. Or maybe Ten One Design couldn't quite decide how to shape a more tapered tip to the stylus while still providing for 1) the conductivity requirements, and 2) durability. [See footnote 2 below.] Whatever their reasoning, the result is a stylus which I was completely unable to use without holding it perpendicular to the device's screen. This is a completely unnatural posture for 'writing' on your screen. Additionally, this extremely limits the way you can hold your device while using the stylus, as your head essentially has to be looking straight down onto the device in order to ensure proper placement of the stylus tip. All in all, for those who are looking for a simple extension of their fingertips so they can keep using their iDevices while wearing gloves or something similar, the Ten One Design Pogo stylus might work for you. (Though, if you're looking for gloves that you can wear and still use your iPhone / iPod Touch, I highly recommend taking a look at Dots Gloves instead.) If, however, you're looking for a stylus that you can use in the same manner you would use a pen, then I suspect you'd be disappointed by this product. [Footnote 1] I actually purchased one of each, as my household has both devices, and I was curious if there was any actual difference between the two stylus 'models.' To save anyone else the trouble of wondering about this: as near as I could tell, there are no differences between the iPod Touch model and the iPhone model. [Footnote 2] The capacitive substance on the stylus is actually a nubby foam. As I admittedly haven't been using the stylus, it hasn't exactly had to stand up to a lot of wear and tear, but I can foresee the quarter-inch of foam coming off quite easily. Moreover, I can easily see the 'skin' of the foam (which is what's actually needed to interact with your iDevice) peeling off, leaving you with a nifty lens cleaner, but not something terribly useful for use with your iPod or iPhone.

Ten One Design Pogo Stylus for iPod touch 2G,

I LOVE this stylus!! So much easier to tap the letters. It clips right onto the Touch (or the leather case for me) and it always handy. My brother loved it so much that I gave him mine and ordered another.
The price is a little high, but it is well worth it!

Perfect for Iphone Use,

I own two of these and I use them on my iphone. I do not use the clip because I have a sturdy leather case which the clip would make unusable. Thus, I keep one in my purse and one next to me at my work station. I use it to type on the virtual keypad. It has made using the virtual keypad much, much easier. My husband loved the iphone EXCEPT for its virtual keyboard (instead of real life buttons like a Blackberry has). This Pogo stylus solved his only problem with using an iphone. Now he too has no problem with the virtual keypad. This is a very cheap solution for those of us having trouble using the virtual keypad. I have no problem using my fingers for everything else as I have very small hands so I do not need these other uses which are cited in the product information.

don't buy cheap,
This review is from: Ten One Design Pogo Stylus for iPod touch 2G, 3G (Black) (Electronics)
I purchased a few stylus pens from a discount internet site. They break constantly and are not worth anything. The Ten One is easier to use and more reliable. Don't waste your money on the cheap ones because in the long run they cost more as they don't last.

So glad I paid more as this works great. It is easy to use, no more finger prints or missed typed keys. Just the right pressure for the IPod touch.

Nifty Little Screen Scratcher,

The stylus' aluminum tubing edge is sharp enough to scratch hell out of your screen if you move across it at a too shallow angle, something that's easy enough to do since there's not really much of a soft tip present. Since I was fortunate enough to have my screen covered, I don't know if it'd scratch the uncovered screen or not, and I don't think I'm going to experiment to find out, either.

Very Good, But Do You Really Need It?,

I proactively purchased the Pogo Stylus while waiting for my iPhone 3GS to arrive a few months back. I have big fingers, so I was worried about the ability to type effectively. When the phone came in, I was unable to attach the stylus because the holder would not fit my phone. I guess it was meant for the iPod Touch, or maybe I was just sent the wrong product. Either way, the stylus is quite effective (probably the best out there, although, it is thicker than others).
It turns out, to my surprise, my fingers performed much better than the stylus did (fingers faster to type & easier to slide on screen). Fingers work best, even if you have big fingers due to iPhone technology and auto spell correct. If your fingers are gargantuan, or, you are used to a stylus, then this stylus should work perfectly. I give 4 out of 5 stars because it is is not too expensive, easy to use, and does what it is supposed to. Would have given 5 stars if the holder fit my phone. (Lost it after 2 weeks) Had I trusted that the iPhone technology was as good as everyone said, then I probably would not have bought this. In my particular case, it was not needed. Is the purchase worth it? Yes it is. Is it Justified? Depends on the user.

It works well, you just have to put some pressure behind it. Other than that, it's amazing if you have long fingernails!

Clip Workaround,

After reviewing several styluses, I was happy to find the Pogo came with a clip that would prevent me from losing the stylus itself. All others were a pen-style. Good if you have pockets, not so good for finding at the bottom of a purse.
The only drawback with the included clip is finding a way to use it with a case. I originally had a silicone case, and with a few slits cut into the sides, was able to use the Pogo clip. I've also tried the clip with the DLO leather case, which has openings in the case at just the right points to allow the clip to come through. I had thought the tip would be felt instead of styrofoam, but it works well even for sliding across the screen, which isn't true of the other rubber-tipped styluses. Highly recommended if you either a) don't use a case or b) can find a similar workaround as mine.

I love this product as I have fat fingers and my typing sometimes hits the wrong keys with my (fat) fingers. Also it works well in keeping the screen clean, as sometimes I'm eating on the run. The tip is soft but yet very durable. This product is everything I hoped it would be making my typing quicker with efficiency. Also I love the clip to the side of my iPod, so I never have to find the stylus.
Great product , worth the difference in cost over the others. |
