Perfect gift for pre-school or kindergarten graduation!,

This review is from: Ten Hats: A Counting Book (Paperback)
The delightful & simple concept of Ten Hats is to count down through the various 'hats' people wear in their professions. Ten Hats is a fun book to read aloud to a group of children. The children enjoy guessing who might be wearing the hats. Ten Hats shows children that they have choices in life. And the best hat of all (in my opinion) is the graduation hat, that celebrates education and a child's choice to be anything they want to be. I think Ten Hats would be the perfect gift for your pre-schooler's and kindergartener's graduation!

The perfect book for your little reader! Counting backwards, 'playing dress-up' and dreaming big! The repetition is fun and seeing who wears the next hat is a definitely a big hook. Loved the concept and the ending. A worthwhile book that offers something more than just counting.

In the world of counting books "Ten Hats" stands out like a giraffe in a herd of zebras. As each hat is removed from a brass rack, kids learn to count the ten hats in ten different professions: constructor worker Nat, a tiger in a yellow, hard hat, drives a mighty bulldozer; police officer Sheila McNapp, in blue cops' hat, hurries a goose family across a cobblestone street; rodeo monkey cowboy Pat, dancing pachyderm ballerina Nina, and gridiron grizzly Elmer Quinn are just five of the ten animals counting down to the last page where the question: "Who wears that shiny, flat hat?" is answered by a happy bunny in cap and gown. "You do," are the final, positive words. "And you can be anything you want to be." If the "Ten Hats" animals could vote, they'd all give this wonderful counting book a unanimous "Two paws up!"

Wonderful book!,

This is a wonderful book, both to read to young children, and as an early reader for slightly older kids. First of all, there is wonderful repetition which the kids love: "Ten hats hang on the rack on the wall. Ten hats hang on the rack." And the same refrain continues with each number: 9, 8, 7, etc. Then there is a close-up of each hat, with a question about who wears that hat; for example: "Who wears that yellow hard hat?" And then the answer on the next page, with a very amusing animal character wearing the hat that goes with his/her particular job (for example, for the yellow hard hat, the answer is ""Construction worker Nat"). When you get to "One hat hangs on the rack on the wall. One hat hangs on the rack," there is a close-up picture of a graduation cap, with the question, "Who wears that shiny, flat cap?" and the answer on the next page shows a happy young bunny in graduation cap and gown and the uplifting answer: "You do -- and you can be anything you want to be!" I highly recommend this book, both for learning to count, and for learning about different jobs and the hats that people wear while they work. And especially for the uplifting message at the end! I'm sure that you and your kids will love this book as much as we did.

Synopsis: An illustrated picture book that counts down through the various `hats' people wear in their professions, Ten Hats confirms to children that they have choices in life. They will enjoy discovering who might be wearing the hats. Overall thoughts: Children love to guess and love to see animals doing things that humans do. This fun picture book allows children to do both. The illustrations are charming, and the prose is appropriately repetitive for a pleasurable reading experience for younger readers. Readers will find themselves giggling at the animals, and will probably not realize they are also learning counting skills. The delightful guessing and finding out about careers concludes with an inspiring message for children, for anyone. |
