Book Description

Another quality eBook from Chapel Library (active contents and footnotes)

"Ten Indictments Against the Modern Church" is a sermon preached at the Revival Conference in Atlanta in 2008. “Paul Washer delivered an urgent appeal to the Christians and churches in North America: that many have been believing a false gospel and have false assurance of their salvation! He listed ten indictments against the modern church system in America. This is a historical urgent message. Tell others and spread the message! We need a reformation and revival of a Biblical standard!”—Greg Gordon (Revival Conference Organizer)

The two-hour message can be heard in its entirety at www.tenindictments.com.

Paul Washer ministered as a missionary in Peru for ten years, during which time he founded the HeartCry Missionary Society to support Peruvian church planters. HeartCry (as of November 2010) supports over 100 indigenous missionaries in more than 20 countries throughout Eastern Europe, South America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. An itinerant preacher, Paul also frequently teaches in a new church plant in Radford, Virginia. He is the author of The One True God: A Biblical Study of the Doctrine of God and The Truth about Man: A Biblical Study of the Doctrine of Man. Paul now serves as one of the laborers with the HeartCry Missionary Society (www.heartcrymissionary.com).

5.0 out of 5 stars timely, much needed October 16, 2013

If ever there was a message needed for the church today, this is it. Washer speaks so much truth here, for example Washer says "Do you know why all your Christian bookstores are filled up with self-help books, and five ways to do this or that, and six ways to be godly, and 10 ways not to fall?--because people don't know God! And so they have to be given all sorts of trivial little devices of the flesh to keep them walking as sheep ought to walk! "Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame" (1Co 15:34). Why the rampant sinning even among God's people? It is a lack of the knowledge of God! Now let me ask you a question. When was the last time you attended a conference on the attributes of God? When was the last time, as a pastor, you taught for a solid year on who God is? How much of all the teaching that goes on in America all week has anything to do with who God is?"
I am convinced this is the root of much of what is wrong with the church. Man does not know God, so man interprets the Scriptures according to his own faulty understanding.

Washer goes on to make such an excellent claim in stating this, "I submit to you that this country is not Gospel hardened; it is Gospel ignorant, because most of its preachers are."

And lastly, I must bring out this from Washer's sermon, "Jesus gave His life for the Church, a beautiful, virgin, pristine Church. If you want to give your life for something in the ministry, give it to the Church: to a church, a body of believers, a local congregation. It is all about the Church. Now, I want you to listen well. There is not a remnant of believers in the Church.

5.0 out of 5 stars Paul Washer sheds great light on to days church December 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
In this book Paul Washer address ten areas in to days church that are keeping the church from being what Christ intends for her to be. For those who love the church this book is both encouraging...that someone is saying what many of us are thinking/see. But it is also hard to read...because it is as if Paul Washer is writing right to each of us about our church. This book should be read by all church members, those on the pulpit and in the pew.

5.0 out of 5 stars Speechless!!! April 26, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Paul Washer's love for Christ is so intimate it is almost painful. Such a yearning, such a longing to become more like Christ everyday. Pauls Washer has presented some very important facts about the state of the church, the state of evangelism and he backs every single point with the Word of God. Paul is right when he said there is but one Gospel, the Gospel of Christ. Because of our love for Christ, we will be moved to be obedient to His word. I could sit here and write a complete book review on Washer's book, however what I will say is simply that I felt like I have already been to church reading his book, I was so humbled and moved by his sincere urging. I noticed many have referred to Paul Washer's "hate". What hate? I did not read anything that made me believe that he hated, but that he is urging the church as a whole to get right with God. We do not need a counterfeit gospel. The gospel should not be for sale. Christ freely gave. We are saved by the grace of God, and as Paul pointed out, the gospel of Christ, salvation, atonement, regeneration, holiness, etc. is hardly ever mentioned anymore. What are the people being saved from? And why? We can agree to disagree but the Bible states that it is the word of God. If we cannot trust the scriptures and take them literally, why read them at all? May God continue to bless and use Paul Washer.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings.... January 9, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What I know: I was not overly impressed with the book. What I don't know: How to explain why.

No doubt the author makes some points worth due consideration. But what is equally problematic is (1) his over generalization that makes it hard to know the degree that you agree with him or not, or just how to apply this thoughts; and (2) his tendency to throw the baby out with the bath water. For one to have an ongoing gripe session about "all guys are slobs," or "all girls are vain" hardly identifies the real offenders or the specific ways that need to be corrected -- but such seems to be the nature of Washer's approach. And has the "sinner's prayer" been misused? -- no doubt it has. Does such misuse by limited individuals warrant the author tirade against this instrument or all who use it? -- hardly.

For one mature and wise enough to separate the wheat from the tares, this is certainly a worthy read. For others....

Just read this book. It speaks absolute volumes of truth and should show us and remind us of who we are to be in Christ and as the body of the Church.

4.0 out of 5 stars He makes some excelent arguments February 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Although I don't 100% agree with Paul Washer on every issue, I do agree with his overall assertion that there are some problems that need to be addressed in the modern church. Paul presents some well thought out, and well argued points. Even if you don't completely agree with him, Ten Indictments Against the Modern Church will challenge you to think and examine your own beliefs.

5.0 out of 5 stars An accurate true servant's view November 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Paul Washer is a faithful servant of Christ, and his view of the modern church is accurate and biblical. You will be indicted, as the title suggests...but in a way that if you answer the call to waken you up and make a change... you'll be blessed.
