2007 sophomore album from the Britpopsters produced by Jim Abiss [Arctic Monkeys, Editors, Kasabian] and Brendan Lynch [Primal Scream]. The Rakes flawlessly blend their influences (Punk, New Wave and Post-Punk) with bits and pieces of the modern Britpop blueprint, sounding both unique and comfortably familiar at the same time. But nothing is more important than 'tunes', and The Rakes certainly know how to write an almighty hook! Ten New Messages was recorded in London during the autumn of 2006, and features, ironically enough, ten new songs including the single 'We Danced Together'. I found this album while browsing through a selection of indie rock tracks. I was really surprised at how great of a sound the album, as a whole, conveyed when you listen to it. I had never heard of THE RAKES prior to hearing this album, but I am now a fan. Check it out!
