Could have been a winner ...,

This review is from: Ten Pin Alley 2 (Video Game)
As an avid bowler, I'm always up for any video game that recreates the experience. I've bought every Wii bowling game to date, hoping they would build upon the simplicity of Wii Sports bowling.
Ten Pin Alley 2 could have been this product, BUT ... Let me say first that, it's a little bit of a quirky character set, the graphics are OK for the Wii, and the pin physics are far better than any other Wii bowling game I have seen - that is if you can actually HIT the pins. This game would be a lot of fun if you could actually throw the ball. One other minor annoyance is you barely ever hear the pins fall - and sometimes they make no noise at all. The instruction booklet in the game dedicates about a whole paragraph on how to throw the ball. Too bad it does not specify on how to throw the ball on this planet. It just won't happen. 9 out of 10 times, the ball gets thrown behind you. It is next to impossible to propel the ball in front of yourself. The once in a while you can get the ball out in FRONT of you, it usually swirls into one of the gutters. It took about 15 minutes just to get through one single game - in which I managed to bowl a 101! I wish I had known about the clumsy controls - I'd have saved my money. I really want to like this game becuase it looks like it could be a lot of fun. The realism of the pins falling is much better in this game then the other bowling games. Ten Pin alley 2 could have been so much more if it were easier to throw the ball. I am hoping that with lots of practice, i will be able to figure out how to get the ball to roll down the lane. Overall look: 4 (out of 5) Physics : 5 Sound: 3 Choice of characters: 3.5 Control: -1

Ok, so the graphics are not as good as they could have been. Considering this game against some of the other bowling games we have played, this game is pretty decent. You have more control over the curve of the ball after releasing by moving the Wii remote either left or right (in a rolling motion). Single player offers regular ten pin, tournament play, and trick shot play. The trick shot is pretty neat, as it offers a different approach to the typical "spin control" that you get from Wii sports. All in all, the game is worth the money.
