Photographer and publisher, Rankin, established his reputation in 1991, when he and his business partner, Jefferson Hack, launched the now cult fashion magazine, Dazed & Confused. He has since photographed subjects ranging from U2 to Gordon Brown, shot covers for publications worldwide and has gone on to shoot ad campaigns for some of the best known brands in the world. In 2009, Rankin Photography outgrew its original home moved into a brand new bespoke design in North London-named 'Annroy'. Rankin's 'grand design' includes a purpose-built studio, gallery, offices, and living space.
Thomas Wylde fashions serve as the backdrop for a unique new book named "Ten Times Rosie" by famed photographer Rankin (2009's Heidi Klum tribute, "Heidilicious"), featuring ten different motifs of a single model subject, Britain's Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Rankin's set ups range from a full body black body paint set up to a dramatic Death Valley photoshoot to a set of high glamour interiors ("Wicked Way") to a stunning snake tattoo session and even a punk rock motif (complete with RHW in full mohawk mode!)
Rankin's photographic style is at times reminiscent of other high-end photogs - Herb Ritts in the Black Summer session and pure Scavullo in Snake Bite - which may actually be part of its glory. What impresses, is how one photographer using a single model ends up with ten completely different themes, all of which are compact and effective.
The book, which appears to have begun as a promotion for the Thomas clothing line (even when there are no clothes in some of the pictures, of course), stands just as well on its own as a conceptual photo document as well as another successful chapter in the photographic journey of Rankin.
It's an amazing book, everything i expected to be. For Rosie H-W fans it's a beautiful collection of photos, she looks fantastic in every one of them, If you like fashion photography it's also a great purchase, all the ten concepts are brilliant and completely different.
