It's been a little over 3 year since Ball & G dropped their last album, and they drop another worthy of 4 stars. They have 10 (I think) group albums and each has a few solos as wellover the last 17 years, so not only are they Southern legends, but rap veterans. I will break down their albums.
1993 "Comin Out Hard" - 4.5 stars 1994 "On The Outside Lookin In" - 4.5/5 stars 1995 "On Top of the World" - 5 stars 1997 "Lyrics of a Pimp" - low 4 stars 1999 "In Our Lifetime" - low 4 stars 2000 "Space Age 4Eva" - 4 stars 2004 "Living Legends" - low 4 stars 2007 "Ridin High" - low 4 stars 2005 "The Remix Album" - 4 stars I also have 3 solo's from each of them as well as 8Ball's group album he did with Edi Amin of the Outlawz, and they all range from 3.5 - 5 stars as well. So they have a nice long and good catalog to their names. This one has 14 songs, 4 are ok, the other 10 are goo, no great of classics on here however, and their best work was early - mid 90's Suave House days, but they still don't disappoint. Of the 14, guests are heavy, on all but 2 songs. rapping on 7 and doing the hook on 5. Producion is decent as well, Drumma Boy does 4, Grand Hustle does 3, Mo B. Dick, Nitti, David Banner, B Don, Midnight Black, Swizzo, Shamann Cooke all do 1. Anice album to have form veteran/legends in the rap game. #1 - 7.5 (avg. beat, lyrics carry this one) #2 - 6 (f/ Young Dro -- another avg. beat) #3 - 8 (f/ Bun B) #4 - 8 (f/ Lil Boosie) #5 - 6.5 (f/ Soulja Boy) #6 - 8.5 (f/ David Banner -- nice beat) #7 - 8.5 (f/ ??) #8 - 8 (f/ Ricco Carrino, who provides a bad hook) #9 - 8.5 (f/ Porter Reek -- nice beat) #10 - 7 (f/ Mitchelle'l Sium) #11 - 8.5 (f/ TI & ?? -- nice beat) #12 - 9 (f/ Mitchelle'l Sium -- nice beat) #13 - 8 (f/ Slim Thug & ??) #14 - 8.5 MJG -- Marlon Jermaine Goodwin -- b. 1/9/72 -- Memphis, TN 8BALL -- Premro Smith -- b. ~1972 -- Memphis, TN Check all my reviews

8Ball & MJG, memphis legends, effectively rebound from the disappointment that was Ridin High. That album, while having a few bangers, represented a departure from the type of music that made the popular in the first place.
With a new label situation on Grand Hustle where they more than likely weren't negatively influenced by management (Diddy has done many great things but he mishandled this group), they return to a more soulful laid back sound reminiscent of their heyday. 8Ball & MJG's flows and styles perfectly compliment each other and coupled with production that fits them and lets their styles and voices come through this album proves to be a welcome treat for fans of the group and new fans alike. Guests include T.I., Young Dro, Lil Boosie, Slim Thug, Bun B, and Soulja Boy and production is nicely handled by Nitti, David Banner, Drumma Boy and in house Grand Hustle producers Nard & B amongst others. The group brings back their reflective style on this album and shines through most on Life Goes On ft. Slim Thug which proves to be an instant classic and one of Ball & G's best songs yet. On what could only be described as country rap tunes (via Pimp C) the three rappers easily coast through life's situations all the while dropping knowledge, staying true and remaining honest. Slim Thug gives one of the best verses I've heard from him. In all honesty this is the type of music that shaped our foundation in the south. Other country rap tunes include Still Will Remain, Billy Truth Be Told, and Right Now. If 8Ball & MJG is in your lane then I advise you to pick this one up if you haven't already. 8Ball & MJG prove that they never lost it they just needed some better direction. The Memphis Legends are back! 4 stars.

Rewind back to 4+ years ago and your cd were the best in my mind. If anyone were to ask me 4 years ago what my favorite artist/s were it was Eightball MJG. Unfortunately things have slowly decreased to a mild release of this cd.
I am not the typical listener of Eightball & MJG as I am a white male 30 years old and I am a manager of a body shop but I grew up on rap and see not only Eightball but alot of other rappers out there that have long hit their peak and are coming down. Go back to your roots and I think you will get a bigger following. Maybe his last cds have more to do with going more mainstream like hooking up with Diddy but I liked the old Eightball much better. On a side note I usually buy my music from iTunes and tried out 2 cds from Amazon's MP3 downloading and it was pretty easy. Everything imported nicely into iTunes and I am very happy with that.
