4.0 out of 5 stars Mediation--a valuable alternative, December 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ten Years or Ten Days : A Saga of Litigation and Mediation to Become Unmarried, Separated, or Reconciled (Paperback)
This book contrasts the path of a domestic relations case through the legal system with all of the never-ending maneuverings of counsel, and the resultant agony and heartache on the part of the parties with what could have happened with the common sense negotiation conducted by a mediator. It is one of the few books on the subject of mediation which provides a human side of the process rather than, as with most treatments of the subject, a how-to guide to conducting a mediation. A very interesting work.

4.0 out of 5 stars well-written, engaging narrative of "divorce war", September 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ten Years or Ten Days : A Saga of Litigation and Mediation to Become Unmarried, Separated, or Reconciled (Paperback)
Dr. Stein has accurately portrayed the path to all-out war that so frequently characterizes the reality that is American-style divorce. At a time when mediation has gained momentum as a viable legal option, it is tragic that so many couples fail to avail themselves of the resources available to help them to avoid adversarial litigation. This would be a valuable addition to library collections intended to serve the public and a compelling read for any person caught up in the divorce process.

4.0 out of 5 stars Life during and after divorce, February 19, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Ten Years or Ten Days : A Saga of Litigation and Mediation to Become Unmarried, Separated, or Reconciled (Paperback)
Informative book on dealing with the ending of what was thought to be a lifelong commitment. When two people cry out for mediation, but to the deaf ears of attorneys and judges. A gasping trip toward the epitaph endings on how courts and mediation work.
