Interesting compilation of Resident Evil series music.
Contains tracks from Resident Evil (remake), Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, Resident Evil - Code: Veronica, Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil 4. So begins... The music from remake is about questions, not answers. Why remake and not original? Why these tracks (short, dark, dramatic and terrifiing only)? What about a little contrast? Where are the calm, melodic piano rolls (like "Meeting Rebecca", "Long Lost Friend", "Save Room" from original)? Or suspense mood tracks ("Ivies' Domain", "Vacant Flat", "Flooded Corridor" like in RE Remix)? Why is this not an option? Resident Evil 2 shows better test probes than RE remake (I have this OST actually). It's tracks more than partically contains original atmosphere of the title, but... if only it has my own favorites ("The Marshaling Yard (both)" or "The Library" for example)... Nevermind, I like it. I don't really have the full OST of RE3:N (and don't really care of...) yet..., but it's composition choice is better than nothing and unlike remake part it has "that needed contrast". Good. I was surprised to find out that the best and the most melodious part of the compilation is RE-C:V, and now I'm even going to buy it's full OST. "Piano Roll", "Lacrymal", "The Suspended Doll", "The Theme of Nosferatu", "Deja Vu" representing this title unexpectedly and totally pierced my mind... :) RE0 part contains the greatest terrifiing track of all CD - "Training Facility Main Theme" and for only that reason it's already worth my sympathies. Which surely doesn't mean the other tracks are bad cause they're not! And finally RE4. Just a couple of words - I don't like it... It's tracks are long (1:30-3:46) but mostly empty (that's my own opinion) it appeals to visual context and doesn't sound without it. And it doesn't worthy to fill the lion's share of CD's space. Only the final track - "Sorrow" tries to pull this whole thing up. In other words, this compilation is still a good sample for you to decide which title's music fits you the best... if you're want more than this of course... ? That's all... and sorry for my english. P.S. Nice label (CD), don't you think (which is actually a poster)?

...Such as myself, or perhaps you need samples of very haunting, beautiful, and especially creepy music.
The average length of these musical pieces is about a minute and a half, however, there are a few songs that reach the three minute mark, and some are less than 30 seconds. Whatever the case, you will not get quite the same feeling you would if you were to hear these songs while playing the game, because the game will repeat a song (tastefully) as long as you are in a certain room or area. This almost certainly provides for a more terrifying, and satisfying experience, which is difficult if not impossible to replicate with their short length on this album, and their back to back juxtaposition with other songs, which do not always go well together. This collection, which is exhaustive for the most part, includes the music from the original Resident Evil video game, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Resident Evil 0, and some, though I am unsure if it is every piece of music, from Resident Evil 4. In my opinion, there are strong and weak pieces of music from every individual game. My favorites include "Narrow and Close", "Feel the tense" and the "Training Facility Main Theme". These songs are quiet, almost minimalist, and rather atonal. Which lends them a sparse, dark, disturbing sound. I was shocked, and disappointed, to find this soundtrack does not include the "Save room" theme song, which is one of my favorite songs, and is probably one of the most well known, for obvious reasons. And then, there are more typical action songs like "Maximize your survival instinct" and "Final Battle" which tend to have a slightly campy feel. Either way, most songs, even the campy ones, can carry an atonal or dramtic sense of urgency or tension, which is very effective for this sort of video game. I belive every song is the product of electronic composition (and a bit of voice recordings), which means their composers, such as Makoto Tomozawa, Misao Senbongi, and Shusaku Uchiyama had near complete mastery over their sonic universe, and allowed them to create some very very unique sounds I have never heard anywhere else. I would recommend this album especially for hardcore fans.If anything, this album will be a pleasant...er...frightening walk down memory lane. Those who are not fans might find much less to appreciate here, since they have not experienced these songs in their original context.

I am very pleased with this CD. Great atmospheric music that recreates the gaming experience in your head.
You should be familiar with the gameplay and have a memory of your own games at hand, though. As a simple soundtrack CD this may not be the best choise since the game-score is "programmatic" / functional music in the best sense of the word. You want a good score to a horrormovie? Try out the orchestral score of "Hostel". If you like the RE game you should add this to your collection!

When i took the time to listen to this, I was happy with everything I found here. It was like travelling through a nightmare that had been played through with all kinds of controllers, and i really enjoyed the nostalgia. i also enjoyed the choices - if you were a player ad if you took the time to beat these games, the sounds sort of just stick with you. Hearing them again, a decade after that first experience, is something that felt good to me, to.
Honestly, it make me quite happy. From what I could tell, I heard 0, 1, 2, 3 CV, and another game in the fray. I would look them up but I'm not going to - I hope that a more motivated reviewer breaks down everything for those who just have to know. I can say that the price is really good, that the songs are really surpringly there, and that the price is right. Having this made me feel good. If you are a fan of the series, you wil want this. I say tht as a fan and as someone who know the music and had an attachment to me. If I did not have that attachment I think I would still find the music to be worth getting, but only someone in that position really knows. I do know one thing - you can check out all the sounds and decide for yourself, not having to take a reviewer's word for anything. That has to be the best thing in the world - helpful is the word of someone who says that only one opinion - your own - is the opinion that knows if something is good for you or not.

GOOD CD BUT ONLY A REAL DIE HARD FAN WILL RECONIZE ALL THE MUSIC AND EVEN THEY MIGHT NOT KNOW EVEY ONE. ALSO ALTHOUGH THE ARE 40+ SONGS/TUNES ON CD A LOT OF THEM ARE ONLY A FEW SECONDS (SOME APPROX 10-15 SECONDS)LONG AND ARE OVER BEFORE THEY REALLY GET STARTED THIS WITH ALSO THE FACT THAT EVEN WITH THE VOLUME UP HIGH ON CD PLAYER TRACKS ARE RECORDED SO LOW THAT THEY ARE OVER BEFORE YOU CAN HEAR THEM PROPERLY. THATS WHY I THINK THIS JUST SCRAPED BY WITH 3 STARS. ONCE AGAIN ONLY FOR REAL RESI FANS.

A great addition to your CD collection if you enjoyed the music from the Resident Evil Games. This gives you a selection of music from across the Resident Evil series (although not the most recent games). While it does not have all the music tracks it has a good sampling and is great to listen to.

This cd is very good, had a great selection of tracks from every Resident Evil title (until 4). For example, even if I never heard the RE 3 music, every selection captures the spirit the particular game it came from. Also the poster behind the front cover is excellent. Too bad that to use it I had to loose the front cover. :-(
I recomended this for people that love RE and want to had a "special something" in their music collection. If you don't know much about the series and want to try, listen to the excerpts of music in the page, they are an excellent way to know if you'll like it or not.

A Walk Down Memory Lane..,

Resident Evil Ten Years Of Resident Evil The Official Soundtrack was simply amazing! The tracks pretty much brought me back down memory lane. The Soundtracks holds RE 0,RE,RE2,RE3,RE Veronica, RE4. None of the tracks are bad.
RE 0 had a particular track that was my favorite. The "Training Facility Main Theme" was one of the best tracks from RE0. The theme is creepy yet mysterious. RE "Narrow and Close" "Neptune", " "The Depth" were very interseting. The Depth sounds very distributing but picks up slowly. RE2 personally had some of the best track. "The Front Hall", "The Basement Of The Police Department", "Escape From The Laboratory","The Second Malformation Of "G"(When you fight the monster on the train platform, on the way to the underground laboratory)" were simply amazing! "Raccoon City" is very NOTORIOUS. The Track is played when the police car crashes in the beginning and Leon and Claire are split up.The tracks inspire me so much that soon i'm going to buy the Resident Evil 2 Official Soundtrack. RE3 has alot to offer. "The Last Escape", "Her Determination", "Nemisis Theme", "Feel The Tense" (One of my personally favorites), "Mysterious Orgel" (The puzzle where you had to put the marbles in the correct place and play the exact tone as the original), "The Hospital" (Where you play as Carlos), "Euthanasia Of Raccoon City" (The ending theme of RE3) RE Code Veronica has tracks that were creepy but amazing! "The Suspended Doll" is ALOT of people's favorite and it is mine too. The is played when you play as Claire and you enter the mansion that i believe belong to Alexia. Their is a HUGE Suspended Doll hanging from the ceiling HINTS the name Suspended Doll. "The Theme of Nosferatu", "Deja Vu" "Murderous Eyes" and "The Theme of Alexia Type 2" (I believe you can hear the track when you beat the game. The mini game is now available and you pick Chris I Believe)At the end, the track will kick also. I do believe the track will kick in when you are battling Alexia in the main game too. I haven't played it in years so i might be wrong. Finally RE 4. "The Drive" (At the beginning when you start the game. It's when Leon is in the Jeep with the two Spanish cops. "El Gigante" is when you fight the giant. "Ganado IV" is when you are in the castle and the ganados are in the black robe speaking i believe spanish. You can hear the track throughout the Castle. "Rengenrator" is when you have to fight the tall gray monsters that have the parasites on their body. "Final Battle" is one of my personal favorites. It is played when you have to fight the guy at the very end of the game. I don't remember his name because i haven't played the games in years. Resident Evil Soundtrack has alot to offer. When i played the songs, it send chills down my body. The Soundtrack I STRONGLY RECCOMEND! Buy the soundtrack and listen down memory lane....

the thing about this soundtrack is that it is not just a game soundtrack, it could work as a halloween party soundtrack, or something like that.
the re4 tracks are seriously boring but the rest of the cd is wonderful, and if u played the game, you'll get flashbacks. i do not recommened this for begginers, or rookies in this game, its seriously for fans only, concidering the connection of the music with the game itself. ps: for ipod users and such, the artist in this cd is Soundtrack, so it will be really annoying if u have more than one cd with such artist label. |
