A nice overview of MxPx's career,
By
This review is from: Ten Years & Running (Audio CD)
I actually bought this CD a couple of years ago and never really listened to it that much. So this morning, I figured I would throw it in on the drive into work. I guess my biggest turn off about this album, is that is sounds a lot like Blink-182; a band that I used to love, but really grew out of quick. But I also hear a lot of influence from The Clash, Green Day, No Doubt and the Foo Fighters. Actually, the lyrics are better than most watered down pop-punk acts. I'm not a skater anymore though. I've grown up, and subsequently, people grow out of this kind of music since it appeals to a select age group. These guys were making something totally original in 1993 when they were formed, but unfortunately, bands like Green Day (one of my favorites of all time), opened the door for bands like A New Found Glory, Sum 41, and other groups I'm not to fond of to steal the spotlight. A pop-punk band's vocalist is by far the most important part of the band, and the whiny high pitch voice that many of these bands possess just isn't doing it for me anymore; which is one reason that I love Goldfinger (he's got a different voice).
I won't lie though, I did enjoy this CD for what it was. There are some good songs here. Some of my favorites are "My Mistake," "Chick Magnet," "Doing Time," and "Move to Bremerton". It's not that it's bad, it's just that I've heard it all before. Nevertheless, MxPx does do this style of pop-punk quite well. This album goes to prove that most punk bands don't grow up, which is why most of them have a tough time later in their career; because people don't want to hear the same riffs re-worked over 10-20 years, it just gets tiring. There needs to be more punk bands like NOFX. Those guys are always coming up with great concepts, odd time signatures, and different styles to color their existing canvas. Their music makes the canvas of other pop-punk bands seem black and white. MxPx falls somewhere in the middle of this whole mess. They are better than a lot of pop-punk acts, but their not among the elite.

The Best of MxPx,

This CD is sweet. The 2 new songs, "Running Away" and "My Mistake" are excellent. The re-recording of "Punk Rawk Show" is also pretty good. One of the reviews on here was complaining about how MxPx isn't Christian. Well, if your looking for a Christian punk band, check out Ace Troubleshooter or Relient K. MxPx has said in the past that they are not a Christian band, they are "Christians in a band." This is the perfect CD for both a new MxPx listener and a big fan.

While I've heard some people say this CD isn't worth buying because it only has 2 new tracks I highly disagree. Here's my favourite tracks:#1 Punk Rock Show: 9/10: Punk Rock Show really shows the true MxPx spirit, fast, slightly hard, and fun. This song is a rerecording, and actually sounds alot better then the original version. #2 My Mistake: 9/10 Actually I didn't like this song at first, but it seems to have made its way to MTV, and other places around the world. It has grown on me and I now find it to be a great song, one of MxPx's new songs. #3 Running Away: 8/10 My favourite song on the CD when I first heard it, Running Away has kinda faded for me but is still a really good fast running Punk Song, MxPx seems to have returned to their Punk roots and has stopped flirting with PopPunk. #5 Want Ad: 7/10 This song was one of MxPx's first ever song and features their original guitarist. Want Ad seems unpolished, somewhat rough, but definitely fun and seems to be an add for a Christian Punk Girl. #6 Tomorow is Another Day: 10/10 One of my favourite songs, Tomorow is Another Day is an emotional song that still holds on to its fast punk origin and really speaks of life in general from a Christian perspective. #9 My Life Story: 7/10 This song really is catchy, I'm not sure what album it was originally on because I'm kinda new to MxPx but it is very good. #18 Move to Bremerton: 10/10 Actually I almost want to beleive that MxPx rerecorded this song and forgot to mention it. This song was remixed but not rerecorded, and boy does it sound great. #19 Middle Name: 8/10 A song that you really can't tell what Mike is singing at first and is overpowered by Tom's guitar Middle Name is really catchy, and will grow on you like a tumor :-P. For all of you who have other MxPx CDs it may not mean that much to you, but if you don't have all their CDs then DEFINITELY BUY THIS. The CD pamphlet is actually pretty cool also, giving the great story of how MxPx came along to become who they are today.

A very good collection of MxPx songs,

If you are new to MxPx then start here because it has a good compilation of their best songs up until 2002. (Nothing off Before Everything & After or Panic) Obviously every song is going to be amazing so how could you not give this 5 stars. It is true that a lot of songs are missing such as pretty much the whole Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo album in which every song is good enough to fit in here. Thats normal though, if a band is good enough then a "greatest hits" like this should not be able to scratch the surface of good songs. If you aren't new to MxPx you should still get this for My Mistake, Running Away, the Broken Bones and the remastered version of Punk Rawk Show which is way better than the original. MxPx is one of the best pop punk bands in history so go support them and other Christian music as well!!!!

Good quality for good songs,

Before I bought this album, I had pieced together a somewhat complete idea of what MXPX was and how they got there. This turned my sketchy ideas into concrete reality. This showcases all of their best hits ever since they first got together in 1992 to the present. Several themes hit me very hard: for instance, I didn't realize the extent of the Christian imagery Mike put into his songwriting. Yes, there are let's-have-fun songs like Punk Rawk Show and Chick Magnet, but then there's specific references to God and/or Jesus in Want Ad, Tommorow's Another Day, and Do Your Feet Hurt, and implied references in Pxpx and Let It Happen.Besides that, the producer did an awesome job of remixing this album. Some songs were completely revitalized (I used to kind of like the song "Move To Bremerton", but now this version is up high on my list of favorites), while others kept their previous style (Pxpx is still the raw, hardcore-ish song I remember). Overall, this is a good quality album filled with good quality songs.

This is their best Cd. no argument. The remixed and mixed songs, just every song sounds better. This is only one you have to buy. Don't waste money on life in general. If you have to get another one get Pokinatcha. This cd rocks!! Hey music fan from Greenville calm down, your embarrassing yourself. You just showed how mature you are. Yes evolution is silly but you don't have to get mad at it. People aren't going to listen to you if you whine like that. and take some of your horror movie list of this sight. You're taking up space. Anyway for those of you thinking about buying this Cd do so, you won't regret it. MxPx forever!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perfect example of MXPX at it's best.,

Ten Years and RunningMXPX May 21, 2002. Tooth & Nail I would give this CD a 4 out of 5 rating. MXPX is an awesome band. I would recomend this album to anybody that likes rock or alternative. It's an album of fan favorites and has two new songs. If you already like MXPX then this is a great album. It has all of your favorite songs on one CD. No more changing CD's so you can hear your favorite song. Just pop this one CD into your stereo and your set. If you don't know MXPX, but would like to hear them, then this is also a great album, because it's the perfect example of MXPX at it's best. I like MXPX because it's a nice way to get away from all the hate of hardcore punk. All of their songs are about, falling in love with girls, breaking up with girls, not fitting in with the normal crowd, the other guy that gets all the girls, and just being a teenager. A great example is "Teenage Politics." It's about all the things every teenager, popular or misfit, does. In short, MXPX is an awesome band and whether you like them or just want to see what they're like, this is an awesome album.

this cd is okay.but it sounds too poppy like blink 182.if you want a more heavier christian punk check out mxpx's pokinatcha. it is much more hardcore.but if you like poppy punk then this is for you.the good ones are punk rawk show, lifestory, pokinatcha punx(pxpx), gsf, and middlename the rest are not too good. either try pokinatcha or let it happen from mxpx. the rest are not worth it.
