Again, another awesome purchase we have made from Tenba. We LOVE their backpacks. We have tried Lowerpro and various other manufacturers but seem to always come back to the Tenba bags. They are simply made the best. I have the Tenba Shootout medium for myself. I am 6'2 and it fits me perfectly. I bought the Shootout small for my wife who is petite at 5'2 and it fits her perfectly. She first ordered the mini but it was a little too small and didn't come with the back support belt. That is very important when carrying heavy photo gear while hiking. We have been traveling the western U.S. doing nature photography and have hiked MANY places with our Tenba bags. We have used them hard and they are both still holding up perfectly.

The Tenba 632-302 Shootout Small Backpack is a great pack for my camera equipment. The size is just right. Everything fits snugly without cramping things. There is a lot of padding to protect my camera equipment (Nikon D90 with 2 lenses, flash unit and other equipment). I particularly like the cover that goes over the shoulder straps. Keeps the pack from handing up on the straps when I am carrying it by the top handle, or loading it with luggage. It is perfect, and I am completely satisfied. My sister has the large one. She travels extensively doing photo shoots. When I saw hers I knew I had to get one.

A very nice bag, exactly what I was looking for to carry my camera equipment. This was the perfect size for a single camera setup, 2 camera bodies will fit, but it can get tight in a hurry, especially if an external flash and a med.telephoto lens, and other odds and ends are added to the mix. I'm very happy with this purchase.

I love the build of this bag, unfortunately it was too big for me. When I loaded all my equipment, it was just too heavy. It is very well constructed but not enough extra storage for me either. Love the tripod holder, it is the reason I wanted this bag in the first place.
Equipment I put in, Nikon D90, Nikon 70-200 2.8, 17-55 2.8 and 50 1.8, 2 Nikon SB800 Speedlights, various filters, note pad, Demb flash accessory, 17" MacBook Pro, and a few other items, and Manfrotto 190XProB with Manfrotto 324RC This bag was heavy!!! Opted for an Ape rolling bag and a smaller backpack to carry just what I need for hiking.

It took me 3 tries but I finally found it...the perfect sized backpack! Now this is of course a matter of opinion and also will vary based on individual needs so let me explain a little about what i was looking for. I own a couple of Domke shoulder bags which i love. However, they don't hold the larger lenses very and they do not hold my 13" Macbook. So i decided to look for a backpack that would hold a couple of my larger lenses (mainly 70-200 and 300 f4), a body, some misc. stuff, a tripod or monopod, plus my Macbook. It had to be comfortable (especially since the equipment i plan on carrying will be quite heavy), water resistant, not look like one of those geeky camera bags that scream "steal me", and most of all it had to fit my stuff.
I started with an Ape Case 1800. They claim that it will hold up to a 14" laptop. It was a nice bag but i could barely fit my 70-200mm with a body attached and definitely could not fit my macbook. It appears that widescreens don't count when they say it holds up to a 14" laptop. But honestly...when was the last time anyone saw a laptop that didn't have a widescreen? The 1800 was exchanged for the next size up, the Ape Case 2000. I knew the second i saw the box sitting at my front door that that one was going back. It was HUGE! I don't know how anyone could carry that thing around on their back. I doubt that you could fit through doorways. I was more like a suitcase than a backpack. If you are looking for something that could hold tons of stuff it's a nice bag but for me...way too big! I prefer to keep my gear in Pelican cases and only bring what i need with me. So for my third attempt i decided to go with this Tenba Shootout Small. I was torn between the Tenba and a couple or the Kata bags but i liked the looks of the fully customizeable interior and the tripod holder on the Tenba. The Tenba Shootout Small is just the right size for me. It holds my 13" Macbook perfectly. I can fit my 70-200 and my 300 f4 with a body attached plus a couple more lenses and a flash. It's a little tight but it works. The tripod holder is also great. Some of the other smaller bags hold the tripod horizontally across the bottom. I don't like that design because it is always catching on stuff while walking. The bag is comfortable, extremely adjustable to get it fitting just right, and it looks pretty nice too. I opted for the silver/black. I wanted something a little different from the norm. I was glad when i got it that it wasn't a light silver but more of a grey. The only downside that i have found so far with this bag is that there isn't that much room for accessories once you load up the main compartment with gear. I was able to fit everything that i need but it was a bit tight.

I recently got another DSLR and wanted a backpack to hold three cameras, a Pentax K7, Pentax K200d, and a Panasonic Lumix G1. I looked around at quite a few products, and either they didn't meet my needs or were too expensive. I don't buy because of a brand name, I buy because of quality. And this pack is loaded with quality. It's interior design is quite flexible, and while it would appear that only two cameras would fit, I was able to get the third - the Lumix G1 (it's tiny) - in with no problems. Plus, there is still room for 3 lenses, the largest a 70-300mm zoom.
I travel regularly to Central America, mostly to the rain forests of Costa Rica, and I needed a backpack that would take the local conditions in stride and protect my equipment. There is a good reason that 'rain forests' are called 'RAIN forests', and this Tenba keeps my equipment dry, and protected from the bumps and casual handling while on the road. It has a waterproof protective cover that actually works, and is not just for show. It is well-padded, and this brings up the only issue that could turn some people off, it's heavy! But, quality does come at a cost, in this case, not it's price, but it's weight. Because I often have to walk a fair piece to get to where I am going to be taking pictures, I needed a pack that I could adjust to my size, and it's straps allow you to custom fit it to your frame, and it's just plain comfortable when walking a good distance. Another good feature is the ability to 'design' the interior compartments to get the most use of the pack's size. This is to say, it's adaptable to your needs. If you need a strong, very well made backpack for cameras, I would certainly recommend the Tenbra line of bags and packs. Great quality at a reasonable price. |
