5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Buy For Any Tenchi Fan.
This series is a sub series. Its just like the other series, a boy meets space girls. They fall head over heels for him. The story is great except near the end of the series it gets a little weird, but overall its a good series.

1.0 out of 5 stars Consumer alert: mislabeled disc
It might just be an isolated incident, but when I got my copy I discovered that disc 2 was mislabeled and actually contained some Spanish movie. So I returned it with a note asking Amazon to check their stock and will be reordering shortly. If you do order this series you might want to just check the start of each disc to make sure it's correct.

3.0 out of 5 stars BAD Packaging for an awsome show!, August 5, 2009

The show is good, GXP is funny, and belongs in the Tenchi world; however, this box set is really subpar. It drops the ball in so many levels of packaging that it's a shame. First, the whole thing is paper, that's right cardboard paper. No plastic, just paper with paper sleeves to protect the disk. That does not work out too well, being out of the box, I got scratches. There is no plastic to be found on this box set, to protect your DVD investment. I am giving the show 5 stars, because it's funny and well done. I would stay clear of this box set thou; I believe that they came out with another set, so buy the other. This one is not worth the 44 dollars. Also, 44 Dollars? I bought this for 29.99 OFF OF AMAZON!!! So why the price jump? So stay clear of this release, I have it, and it's fine. I won't return it, because the disks are fine and the episodes are all included, just the Box set is not what you think it would be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, must watch!!, February 20, 2008
This review is from: Tenchi Muyo GXP Box Set (DVD)
This anime is full of fun. The story is like layer of different sub-stories which are lingering. Seina Yamada, the main character keeps growing up and mingling with the people, environment. Besides fun, it is full of meaningful contents. As same as Tenchi Muyo, it is a great anime among the classic popular.

If you've watched any Tenchi Muyo anime then this will be fun to watch because it introduces new characters to the Tenchi universe. Overall the storylines were ok and the ending was a little strange but hey this is Japanese anime. The animation seemed to get a better toward the end of the series and others have made that same comment. Yes, you do get to see Tenchi and the others in the series but they are basically not involved in the plot. You really have to pay attention to all the Masaki Jurai family information they are supplying you at sporadic moments in each episode which will help when you watch the final season of Tenchi Muyo. I got attached to the characters albeit they were a bit goofy and contrite but they provided a good laugh. I waited for a complete collection instead of purchasing single episodes which is way less money and that along with the overall content of Tenchi Muyo GXP warranted the 4 star rating.

1.0 out of 5 stars English wasn't even their 5th language, June 8, 2010

Ok, I'm sure this is a wonderful series like others have mentioned, but the atrocities in the English Subtitles were truly past laughable. I have enough other anime translations both good and bad that I was able to figure out what it was supposed to be, but I could barely get through episode one.

And yes it is in the Tenchi universe but only through association that I have notice, so I recommend passing on it.

4.0 out of 5 stars tenchi muyo gxp, December 10, 2010

This review is from: Tenchi Muyo GXP Box Set (DVD)
it's an almost typical boy meets girl and falls in love story, but add other women into the mix and you have a train wreck wating to happen. But not in this case, since our hero is the unluckiest person on the planet earth, he knows of tenchi and some of the women living with him. as we come to know tenchi is not just an earthling, but he's also a prince of the planet juri ( forgive spelling ) living on earth for most of his life. Wich brings us to our hero, seina is a friend of tenchi's his bad luck is so bad it affects people who he passes or gets close to him. untill a chance encouter with a GP officer who thinks he's a student of tenchi's recruits into the galaxy police. seina is in for two surprises near and at the end of this saga. I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Series, Horrible Package, August 20, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tenchi Muyo GXP Box Set (DVD)
GXP is not about Tenchi Misaki. Instead it focuses on Seina, a teenage boy and friend of Tenchi's who accidently becomes involved with the Galaxy Police. Girls flock to him, he remains awkward... basically it's keeps with the same harem aspect as Tenchi but expands upon it in a different setting and story. Throw in a few cameos from the original Tenchi gang and Seina's very own Space Pirate Ryoko to contend with and you have yourself an entertaining, comedic show that suppliments the Tenchi universe while standing alone as a series. I decided to rewatch the original Tenchi Muyo! OVA before moving on to GXP and then to Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-oh-ki. For those of you who plan to watch Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-oh-ki I suggest watching this as it expands upon Ryo-oh-ki's supporting cast more. If you are a Tenchi fan this is a must buy.

However, the reason I deduct one star from the review is because of the shoddy packaging. As another reviewer has already stated the entire boxset is made out of PAPER. No plastic is evident whatsoever. Due to this my GXP boxset was crushed in transit despite being loaded with protective air bags. Though the boxset itself is interesting and not like any boxset layout I've seen before there is a reason for it. I like to think of it as a pop up book gone wrong that only inhibits one from easily turning the "pages" to get to the next disc. Also, out of the 8 discs my fourth disc was heavily scratched. I immediately stuck it in my PS3 and played around with it and it seems to work fine but it does look like it's been through heck though I had just opened it from it's original packaging wrap.

Ultimately, I am happy with the series and with the price I paid for it ($16.00). If I had paid more I would have been more upset about the crushed boxset and the scratched disc but since the disc is playable and the boxset still ... somewhat holding my discs in it's odd paper-y little way I accept it and suggest that you give it a try. Just don't expect it to be in prestine condition, even if it's new.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Romantic Comedy Sci-Fi Series Worth Getting, July 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tenchi Muyo GXP Box Set (DVD)
The series was a lot more entertaining than a lot of the reviews I've seen previously about it would give, the series seems a mix of Love Hina and The irresponsible Captain Tylor with a lot more hilarity and well endowed girls than the aforementioned series. The main character who has the worse luck any one can believe but seems to have a unique knack of catching the eyes of girls now seems to have caught the notice of a group of beautiful inter-planetary police woman for what purpose is anyone's guess but with this series we pretty much know what. The series does come in eight dvds and is put into a hard paper dvd case booklet but in all it wasn't that bad a packaging the case is pretty sturdy in my dvds were nicely held in place with no damages to them, also some have complained about the subtitles to the series but after I and a few friends looked at the series we saw the subtitles were all right with hardly any mistakes put into them as one reviewer has said. All I can say is that if you buy online from Ebay or from some other unknown or iffy seller you're not sure about or has no legalized proof that they're not selling a bootleg version there's a chance you'll get a bootleg version with wrong or crappy subtitles. The animation is pretty good with great clarity from the set no distortions or lines to complain about and the soundtrack fits the series perfectly, the voice cast for the Japanese crew did splendidly and the English voice cast were very good as well and the bonus extras while not the greatest aren't to bad either. So for anime fans of harem animes, sci-fi animes, or comedy animes here's a pretty decent set to try out for your anime collection library....
