This review is from: Tenchi Muyo (Audio CD)
I've never really been into Tenchi Muyo! but when my friend brought over the soundtrack and started playing it I loved it. Within a few minutes I could already sing I'm a Pioneer, Washu's Lullaby, and The Lonely Moon. The songs are english dubbed, which is a major plus for those who want to know what the words mean from their favorite anime show WITHOUT learning a whole new language or looking it up at animelyrics.com. The CD contains the following:

I'm a Pioneer ~ This song is EXTREMELY catchy, so beware. I found myself singing it in my head while eating my nachos in the cafeteria and while sewing my flamingo plushie in Home Ec. It's very upbeat and cheerful.

Dream Away ~ I wasn't that big a fan of this song. But it is good, happy, upbeat, and deals with love. I still find myself singing along sometimes. 'Dream away, dream he'll say he still feels the passion he felt way back when...'

Washu's Lullaby ~ My second favorite song on the soundtrack. It is very cheerful and if I had a child I wouldn't be surprised if one day I started singing it to her/him. 'April roses, tiny sparrows, comets bright and new...' The singer sounds like a mother singing to her child, which is perfect. Without the song the CD would feel like it was missing something.

Sleeping Beauty on the Balcony ~ I usually skip over this song. The singer sounds sort of like a child, but at the same with an adult quality. I guess the closest to a helpful description of that would be her voice quivers and is high pitched. Still cheery though, and you might like it.

Pretty Sammy, the Magical Girl ~ If you like Sleeping Beauty on the Balcony you'll like this song even better. It sounds like a little girl, not mixed with an adult, so I found my bobbing my head from side to side from time to time. It's upbeat, like most of the others.

Your Hiroshi ~ I usually listen to the first and third song, then skip down to this song and listen from here. I really love this song, at first you might be confused who exactly the woman is singing to. But to save you the time she's singing to two people, off and on. The song is more soft rock, with an eletric guitar and it's kind of a heartbreak song.

Money No More ~ I like this song just as much as Your Hiroshi. The song is more upbeat and the story behind it even gave me a story idea. The singer sounds like a teenager, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The song has a message, no matter how light it is.

The Lonely Moon ~ This is, by far (in my standards) the best song on the CD. It's sort of like a love poem but is great as a song. The singer has a mature voice, making it more dramatic. At the same time there is happiness there is sadness, so it all balances into a great love song.

Talent for Love ~ Very upbeat and you could dance to it. Not a favorite of mine but the lyrics are happy and can cheer you up after a bad day. The same voice from Money No More (Sharyn Scott)

Rhyo-Oki's Theme~ I didn't like this song at all. But that's just me. It's played at the beginning of the OVAs and there are no words. But on the plus side there is only one of these type of songs on the CD.

Dimensions of Love ~ This song has a bit of techno in it but it fits well nonetheless. The same person who sings Dream Away sings this song but I wouldn't have been able to tell without the info my Media Player gives me. Her voice is a bit more mature although it is still high and the song is a bit slower. At the same time, though, it's upbeat. If that makes any sense.

Up-Walk in Galaxy ~ This is probably the most upbeat song on the soundtrack, the same person who sang Dimensions of Love and Dream Away (Kit Thomas) sounds like an adult here. So comparing the three songs when you heard this you'd be saying: "They're the same person?" Not a favorite of mine, but it's alright.

Forevermore ~ This song is the longest on the CD, around 5:29. When I listen to it though, it goes faster. Kit Thomas once again sings this one with her more childish voice. This song is slow, a love song, and if you listen clearly you could learn to like it if you wanted.

Overall the cd is not a waste, because I never get tired of more than half the songs. For a Techi fan though, you'll probably love them all. (I'm more of an Inuyasha girl, myself)

Enjoy

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent addition to any Tenchi Collection, March 19, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tenchi Muyo (Audio CD)
The CD Tenchi Muyo! provides a concise compilation of the tunes originally released on the Tenchi OAV Soundtracks, Volumes 1 and 2. The mastering is excellent and the sound brings all the imagery of the popular anime series to mind.

The songs on this disk cover the entire range of characters and emotions viewers will be familiar with. From the driving beat of I'm a Pioneer to the surprisingly touching Washuu's Lullabye, these songs will delight listeners, Tenchi fan or not.

The selections include only one instrumental (Ryo-Ohki's Theme, the original opening theme for the show). There are lovely gentle tunes like Sleeping Beauty on the Balcony and The Lonely Moon, the catchy and somewhat disturbing Your Hiroshi, the lyrical cat-fight of Upwalk in Galaxy, and the lively Dimension of Love, which ended the Tenchi Universe series.

Some Tenchi purists will likely be disappointed that all of these renditions contain English lyrics. Don't let that bother you. Just slide this disk into your CD player, crank up the volume, and sing along with your favorite memories of Tenchi, Ryoko, Ayeka and all the gang! Tenchi Muyo! is a wonderful listening experience. Don't miss it.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Need for Japanese Tracks! It's Great Just the Way it Is!, March 7, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Tenchi Muyo (Audio CD)
Many Tenchi Muyo! fans (mainly those who prefer the original uncut version) would probubly want to spend their cash on a Tenchi CD that has Japanese tracks. However, this Tenchi CD features a ton of great Tenchi songs... that are all in English. The word "English" may turn some off, but you need to look at the whole picture, first.
For starters, all the songs on here are English versions of Japanese songs. The only real difference between them is the language (and maybe some lines switched around here and there).
Though many people think this is a CD for the (terrible) Tenchi Cartoon Network Toonami Edited version, the CD has all the songs from the uncut versions. Pretty much most of these songs can't be heard on the Toonami version.
So what if they're not in Japanese? The English talents aren't anything to complain about! So you can hear some of the singers take a breath between lines... how many people actually listen to a song to hear if the person breathes now and them, anyway?
All the tracks are great. "I'm A Pioneer" has to be one if not the best track on the entire CD. "Dream Away" is the opening theme of the Pretty Sammy OVA, and I wish they'd save more space for actuall TENCHI songs rather than Pretty Sammy (though the song is cute). "Washu's Lullaby" is yet another cute song, "Sleeping Beauty on the Balcony" is the opening theme song to the Galaxcy Police Mihoshi's Space Adventure Special and can get a little too sugary, "The Magical Girl Pretty Sammy" is yet another Pretty Sammy song (also the closing theme to the Mihoshi Special) along with "Your Hiroshi" (which can be a bit depressing) and "Money No More," which is pretty much the only Pretty Sammy song worth listening to on this CD. Then there's Ryoko's theme: "Lonely Moon," which is one of the best songs on the CD (closing song to Tenchi Muyo! OVA Season 2), followed by "Talent for Love," another really up-beat good song (closing theme to Tenchi Muyo! OVA Season 1). Afterwards is the song we all can identify Tenchi with: "Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki's Theme" (OVA season 1 opening theme). Then the CD concludes with three main songs from the Tenchi Muyo! TV Series (Tenchi Universe): "Dementions of Love," a very nice track, along with the hilarious "Up-Walk in Galaxy" featuring the never-ending battle between Ryoko and Ayeka for Tenchi's heart. Finally, the CD ends with "Forevermore," a soft, sweet, low-beat song that concludes our Tenchi CD experience off well.
The CD's really good. The only problems I have with it is there is only one intrumental track (and Tenchi Muyo! has a lot of great intrumental/ background songs). I also noticed that the CD has most of the Tenchi Universe songs... except the original opening theme: "Love Will Leave You Crying"... which is a really great song! Lastly, I just feel there's too much Pretty Sammy on this CD! And the best part is they left one Pretty Sammy song out "Magical Door" (ending theme of PS Ep3: Super Kiss). You'd think if they'd put all the PS songs on this CD they'd put them ALL! Plus, there were no Shin-Tenchi Muyo (Tenchi in Tokyo) songs (though I hate Tenchi in Tokyo anyway... but the opening theme: "Where Did the Dream Go?" is catchy).
All in all, though, this is a very good CD and a must-get for any Tenchi fan. So it's not in English... it's still great. I just hope that Pioneer will release all the other great Tenchi songs on future CD releases.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Introduction To The World Of Anime Music., May 30, 2001

This review is from: Tenchi Muyo (Audio CD)
This is a very good collection of music from the Tenchi Muyo! series, and I think it would be a great choice for the beginner in the anime music genre. (Mainly because all the songs are in English and the series has appeared on Cartoon Network, making it very accessible.) Although I enjoy all the songs, I could do without "Sleeping Beauty on the Balcony", because it's so sugary sweet it makes me want to throw up at times (or maybe that's just me ;), and "Your Hiroshi" because it's a somewhat of a depressing song and it kind of brings down the mood of the album which mainly tends to be encouraging and uplifting. My favorite songs would have to be "Dream Away", "Money No More", and "Talent for Love". All the songs are produced very well, and everything is packaged rather nicely. I would have liked a couple more instrumental tracks. "Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki's Theme" is the only one, which is a shame because the Tenchi Muyo! series has some great background music. Also I would have liked a few more pictures of the cast in the booklet, but what's there is fine. Also some of the lyrics that are posted in the booklet are slightly wrong or missing, but that isn't that big of deal. I highly recommend this to any anime music fan, or if you are a music fan in general. Like I said before, this collection of songs are a great introduction to the world of anime music. Five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great Anime soundtrack!, October 25, 2002

The english music of Tenchi Muyo is really great. The English songs of Tenchi Muyo are as good as the Japanese ones. In fact, the Tenchi songs have the same music. Only the vocals are different. Some of the lyrics were slightly changed, but it is not something to argue about. The first song on this CD is I'm a Pioneer, the 2nd OVA opening. The next track is Dream Away which is the Pretty Sammy OVA opening followed by Washu's Lullaby(the song played on Episode 8 of the TM! OVA). The next two songs are Sleeping Beauty on the Balcony, a soft, sugary sweet song sung by Mihoshi's English VA, and Pretty Sammy, the Magical Girl, the song sung by Sasami's VA! Your Hiroshi is a very sad song. Then there's Money no More, a sad song with happy sounding music. Lonely Moon is yet another depressing song. Then we have Talent for Love another lovely song, only it isn't sad! The Tenchi Muyo Ryo-ohki theme(for the 1st OVA) is next. Then there's Dimension of Love(a wonderful song), Up-Walk in Galaxy(Ayeka and Ryoko fighting again for Tenchi's love^_^v), and Forevermore(a soothing song). All the songs of Tenchi Muyo are great, so get it:)!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tenchi Music, August 26, 2001

This review is from: Tenchi Muyo (Audio CD)
I think this is a very good cd to buy if your a Tenchi fan or you just like Anime. I have found out that everybody Likes I'm a Pioneer,Lonely Moon,Talent For Love,Magical Girl Pretty Sammy, and Up Walk in the Galaxy, Your Hiroshi and Money No More is kinda annoying tho. Washu's Lullaby is my favorite tho because Washu is so cute. There is only one instrumental and that is Ryo-Ohki's theme. I personally think only 2 songs 'bite' but the others are good. So if you like Anime music go and purchase this cd it's worth it.

I really love this music CD! It's got lots of cool songs from the Tenchi OAV episodes and the Universe TV series. My favorites are,"I'm A Pioneer", "Dimention Of Love" and the Ryoko-Ayaka theme song,"Up-Walk In Galaxy".

O.K., the one part I didn't really care for was the instrumental piece, titled "Ryo-ohki's Theme", which is the music played at the beginning of each episode of the first half of the OAV series. But the others are a lot of fun. One thing though, they don't have the opening song from Tenchi Universe, "Love Will Leave You Crying".

Also, (Warning, obsessive fan raveing here,) Ryoko is in every picture on the two page booklet that comes with the CD, but Ayaka, who is one of my two favorite Tenchi characters, (the other being Kiyone,) is in only one picture. I know, it's not a really big thing and dosen't really have anything to do with the CD itself, but since she is Ryoko's main rival, I would have liked more attention centered on Ayaka.

Well, anyway, this is a disk you should definetly add to your Tenchi anime and manga collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars No Need for Stress., May 30, 2001

This review is from: Tenchi Muyo (Audio CD)
I have heard this kind of music called 'Bubblegum Pop'. All I know is that it makes me feel relaxed and good when I listen to it and it really is good for stress boys and girls. I really like 'I'm a Pioneer' and 'Washu's Lullaby'. Some people find 'Your Hiroshi' somewhat sad, but I kind of find it funny, in a twisted way. 'Money No More' and 'Up-Walk in Galaxy' are just great and makes me want to sing along, even when in public.

If you like Tenchi series or anime series get this CD. This is no time to be impressed, just go buy it! 8^)

Tenchi Muyo! is a well produced anime and so is the soundtrack. Whats kool is that the voices of Mihoshi from the Universe series and Sasami's doing some of the singing. The Voice of Sasami as far as I know sings Pretty Sammy, The Magical Girl and Your Hiroshi. The Voice of Mihoshi sings Sleeping Beauty On the Balcony. As I said before the songs are produced very well especially I Am A Pioneer, Talent For Love, Dimensions of Love, Up Walk In Galaxy, and Money No More. This CD includes one instrumental track - Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki's Theme. Get this CD it deserves Five Stars.
