5.0 out of 5 stars Tenchi in Tokyo series
Endearing characters all--the heroes and villains in this series provide a fantastic and sometimes nonsensical escape, mixed with familiar life lessons in an atmosphere of comic humor, love, understanding, and forgiveness. Tenchi and the gang are a nice break from the pointless hostility and desperate patterns of the "real" world.

3.0 out of 5 stars Did the good animators die?
I have noticed one thing about the Tenchi in Tokyo series. The animation borders on the same level as Pokemon and Sailor Moon(And probably some of the other animes). Sure I do think the scene involving the Jurain Stone thingy and Ryoko was pretty awesome (Although short-lived) but everything else in this series lacks goodness. The characters seem jerky, most of the...

4.0 out of 5 stars Still a good series, just didn't like the new origen story., September 8, 2003

(REAL NAME)
In the last episode on this tape, Tenchi travels back home on train to meet his family and extra-terrestrial friends, who are planning a party in celebration of the anniversery of when the alien girls first came to earth and met Tenchi. Then Ryoko and the others think back to the day being celebrated, and that's where problems arise.

See, up until now this show worked perfectly as a continuation to Tenchi Universe, and you could easily imagine Tenchi's heading off to Tokyo happening not long after the girls came back to his home after the battle with Kagato.

However, in this new origen story, all the alien girls came to earth and met Tenchi at the same time, and Washu was Ryoko's partner in crime, not her mother. In Tenchi Universe, (for those
who haven't seen it,) Ryoko, Ryo-ohki and Mihoshi arrive first when the galaxy police officer is pursueing the others, Ayaka comes next, followed by Sasami, Washu is found buried in a cave where she was imprisoned for centuries, (just like Ryoko in the OAV series,) and Kiyone shows up last, sent to find Mihoshi.

Some may think I'm making a big deal out of nothing, but in light of continueity, why change the origen story? Especially since now there are two years of history of Tenchi living with his other-worldly residents where we don't know exactly what kind of expirences they went through.

Otherwise, this remains an enjoyable series, with the alien women trying to get jobs and inadvertently helping the bad guys complete an evil mecha, and then the galaxy police officers must save the day, and Sasami makes a new friend who holds a mysterious secret.

One last note, I do miss Kiyone's origonal English voice actor from the "Mihoshi Special" OAV episode and Universe series, however Wendy Lee does quite a fine job.

The characters seem jerky, most of the enemies aren't that evil looking, and the environment always seems to be in a hazy dream-like atmosphere. Well if I do buy it the only reason would be the scene mentioned above. Bye now. Heh-heh. It says I'm only one years old.

4.0 out of 5 stars ok it's getting there, November 1, 2000
vol.2, i believe a lot better than the first volume. But i think the makers should've stayed with the original origin of tenchi. Im confused Sasami and Ryo-oki ? didn't washu create ryo-oki? Anyway this one is quite alright

4.0 out of 5 stars pretty good Tenchi fun, March 3, 1999
By A Customer
i liked these episodes a lot. The first episode was a little corny (Though the idea of the girls trying to make money was fun). The second episode on the tape was a nice return to more serious elements of Tenchi...as well as supernatural elements. I'm still having trouble getting used to Ryho-ohki's mecha form (Pink...WHy pink?).....The last episode was pretty good as well....didn't like the cliffhanger though....its too long a wait for more Tenchi action and fun....Also I was turned off by the rewriting of the origin story.I wish Tenchi could stick to one continuity (I like the first Tv series myself) From what I have read though about later episodes this is something I can deal with. So outside of revisionist history and the long wait for the next video I loved it. Really close to five stars.(would love to see more of Nobiyuki and Grandfather......and what happenned to their voices......I miss Nobiyuki's Homer Simpson type voice in the English dub)
