5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous Underrated Morricone Soundtrack, July 5, 1999
This review is from: La Tenda Rossa (The Red Tent) (Audio CD)
BELLISSIMA! Probably the greatest composer in film, Ennio Morricone is best known for other soundtracks including Once Upon a Time in the West, The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, Cinema Paradiso, and The Untouchables. His best soundtracks have rarely been considered for the Oscars, but La tenda rossa (misspelled in Amazon.com as of this writing, aka The Red Tent) and C'era una volta il west (aka, Once Upon a Time in the West) are his finest and among the best soundtracks ever composed. Inspiring, beautiful, and elegant, this CD flows with viola soloist Dino Asciolla and Edda Dell'Orso (I suspect but she is not listed in credits) who has that famous wordless soprano voice. The first seven tracks seem hauntingly not of this world but of one we can only dream about. A must have for anyone who appreciates beautiful music.

5.0 out of 5 stars La Tenda Rossa (The Red Tent/Expanded) soundtrack CD, August 24, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This movie soundtrack is great. Ennio Morricone is more well known for the soundtracks of the Clint Eastwood "spaghetti" westerns, "Fistful of Dollars", For A Few Dollars More", and "The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly".

Often overlooked is the soundtrack to the movie, "The Red Tent". The score is haunting, the love theme is beautiful, and all of the music fits this true story of a dirigible expedition to the north pole in 1928 led by the Italian explorer, Umberto Nobile.

This CD reissue also includes expanded versions of the themes that were not included in the LP edition in 1968, and an earlier CD issue in the 1990's.

If you are a collector of movie scores, you DEFINITELY want to add this CD to your collection.
