3.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly gentle, May 7, 2000

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Tender Heart (Zebra Lovegram Historical Romance) (Paperback)
Since the synopsis ia listed above, I will limit my comments to the book. If you are looking for gentle humor and pathos, this is the story for you. Although the setup implies a violent trend to the book, we don't really see much of that (thank heavens). What we do see is a heroine who is learning to live and love for herself, not for others. A pregnant woman in jeopardy who is willing to do whatever it takes to save her unborn child, and a man who is torn between his ancient culture and a new life in America, a runaway in need of love, this book has it all. A gentle love story that will delight you, Tender Heart is worth a look.

2.0 out of 5 stars Spend Your Time Reading a Different Book, August 29, 2010
This review is from: Tender Heart (Zebra Lovegram Historical Romance) (Paperback)
Hannah Turner was a heroine with little going for her. Her mother belittled her and she was forced into a marriage with a husband who abused her. An alcoholic, he made her feel like she wasn't good enough. So what happens? She gets pregnant hoping he will finally love her. Knock off one star for stupidity-check.

What does she do? She runs away and starts her web of lies. She boards a train west and "adopts" Franc, a little girl who needs a mother. She soon finds herself in Nevada with a sheep rancher named Max. He believes she is a seamstress that he has hired to make clothes for his children. He finds out different.

The romance was a slow read; take off another star. You knew her first husband would find her. You knew eventually they would 'fall in love'. Why? I don't know because I felt nothing was there. Max was mad one minute, jealous the next, wanted to send her away in another moment- it was frustrating. Unfortunately, the reason why Max is the way he is- he's Basque and that is suppose to account for something.

The H/h lacked chemistry. I didn't care about either of them or his children, Franc, his father, brother, the dog, blah, blah, blah. Knock off another star.
