Big band enthusiasts will be familiar with the voice of Bob Eberly who sang on the bandstand with the Dorsey Brothers Orchestra; remaining with Jimmy when the brothers fell out and split to establish their own outfits. Bob's recordings with the band and occasional duets with colleague Helen O'Connell produced many hits which are still celebrated today.

This collection picks up well after Bob went solo with this 1957 album recalling songs from his bandstand days to great effect although this time around the orchestrations by Enoch Light are string-laden rather than bold big-band brass in accordance with the album's romantic theme. Naturally, TANGERINE, AMAPOLA, GREEN EYES and I HEAR A RHAPSODY just had to be amongst the choices but Bob also took into account some recent material like I'VE GROWN ACCUSTOMED TO HER FACE and LONG BEFORE I KNEW YOU from the Broadway hits MY FAIR LADY and BELLS ARE RINGING respectively and their inclusion adds new to old quite effectively.

Additional songs are from Bob's earlier Fifties singles output which generally typify songs of the period although oldies YOU ARE TOO BEAUTIFUL from the pens of Rodgers and Hart and the Nacio Herb Brown/Arthur Freed number ALONE also prove to be ideal material.

Although big-band enthusiasts will need to refer back to Eberly's early career for the full brassy bandstand accompaniment of that era,this compilation is a treat for those who prefer to fast-forward to his ongoing career as solo artiste.
