5.0 out of 5 stars Honest and Provocative June 3, 2011
Format:Paperback
At once gritty, comfortable, raw and provacative, Mark Stratton's "Tender Mercies" taps into emotions instantly recognizable. Some startle you with their sharp tone, while others wash over you like a cool breeze. The collection, as a whole, touches that most basic part of each of us...the loving, fighting, wishing, regretting, living, dying part of us. There is a rhythm and a cohesiveness to the collection that invites the reader back for another look, and inspires new interpretations with each reading. "Tender Mercies" should be shared and discussed, and most of all, enjoyed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like a Fine Glass of Wine... May 25, 2011
Format:Paperback
Mark's "Tender Mercies" is complex and yet simple, layered, textured, fat with thought that demands to be read over and over again because there's so much more than meets the eye at first glance. It is a Sunday drive down an old country road- your favorite music blaring out from the speakers as the wind rips through your hair. His poetry is his own and yet it is all of us. Savor this delicious book of poems and then purchase copies to give your friends and family. Enjoy!

Tender Mercies is everything that's wonderful about poetry. Simple yet often profoundly complex, the author is a talented and creative wordsmith. Be prepared to feel a gamut of emotions.

Highly recommended.
