4.0 out of 5 stars A Typical Palmer Romance...And a great Book!, December 14, 2004

The back of the book reads...

Eric Van Meer lived life on the edge. He was a mercenary - a hardened man and skeptical of strangers. Which is why Dani St. Clair intrigued him so. The straitlaced, bookstore owner was soft and warm and extremely dangerous to his control.

Eric knew Dani was a forever kind of woman - and deserved more than a one night stand. So he did the only thing his conscience would allow - he proposed marriage. And all that had come before in his life was nothing compared to the danger his heart now faced..."

This was not the best Diana Palmer book I have read, but even the worst Palmer book is an excellent read in my opinion. The characters were likable and believable and though I haven't read the other Soldier of Fortune books, after having read this one, I will definetly buy them. If you like Palmer's writing style, then you will love this book, because it is a typical Palmer romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great by Diana, October 23, 2006

This book was one of my favorites. Very unique, not too many characters, the right amount of sex, love, and action. Dutch is so mysterious, yet he knows since the beginning that Dani will be able to make him happy. Dani is strong, very independent, and takes a huge chance with Dutch. Their love story is sweet. Like always, the man doesnt want to marry. But I think in this one it was so tender when Dutch finally told Dani he loved her. An awesome story...a must read for Palmer fans.

This review is from: The Tender Stranger (Hardcover)
She'd met Eric Van Meer entirely by chance during an unforgettable vacation in Mexico, and with reckless abandon, she agreed to marry the mysterious blond stranger. Dani St. Claire, prim southern bookseller, had experienced a passion that exceeded even those in her cherished romantic novels--- until a hijacked plane and a daring rescue by Eric revealed his true nature and dangerous work.
He Said he needed freedom, yet he'd married her. He said he hated women, yet he tenderly conquered her heart. Was it possible to meet a soldier of fortune on the battlefround of passion and win the war of love?

Okay, first off I would like to point out that I am one of Diana Palmer's biggest fans, so this review might be a bit biased. I liked this book, not love but liked. It was alright. There wasnt anything that was obviously wrong to me, I just felt that the book started slow. I couldnt believe how long it took me to get into the book. Also some people dont like the rudeness of the hero to the heroine, to me that is my favorite part and at first I thought this book didnt have that aspect going on and maybe thats what took me so long to get into it. I dont know. I would also maybe liked to have had a little bit more about Harriet and Dave in the epilogue, but thats no biggie. I would definitely recommend this book :D

5.0 out of 5 stars my favourite romance book ever, October 24, 1999
By
When this book was first introduced, over 14 yrs ago, I enjoyed it so much I wanted to share it with everybody. Of course, when you do that, you lose your books. It took me 10 years to get another copy, but I never forgot the characters - the surprising sassiness of our heroine in the face of arrogance and blind stubbornness from our hero. The surprising tenderness of our hero when confronted with our slightly befuddled and alarmingly old-fashioned heroine. This book is Diana Palmer at her finest, and regardless of future disappointments from her, I will always forgive her because this book touched my heart so completely.
