5.0 out of 5 stars Simonetti Morante Pignatelli, May 11, 2001
This review is from: Tenebre: The Complete Original Motion Picture Sound Track (Audio CD)
Although technically not a "Goblin" CD, it reunites Claudio Simonetti (keyboards), Massimo Morante (guitar), and Fabio Pignatelli (bass) to compose the soundtrack to Dario Argento's classic, "Tenebre". Utilizing a drum machine gives the whole score a new wave-ish feel that's a little jarring at first if you're used to their prior work, but they build off of it in amazing ways (listen to the title track and how the mood and feel changes despite the 4/4 time kept by the drum machine; quite awesome, really). "Slow Circus" has a very queasy feel about the descent into madness as an adolescent; "Waiting Death" shows what incredible moods you can create just by remixing the "Tenebre" track; same with the reprise.

This CD expands from the original album with 11 tracks, making the playing time to over an hour and the sound quality is quite good.

Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tenebre, October 4, 2002

This lavish reissue is brilliant ; it's such a pleasure to listen to this electronic music which has true sensitive dephts in spite of its synthetical orchestration ! Probably the most inventive & exciting film music by the Goblin (or, in fact, some of them). Just listen to the title track : I'm always amazed by its power, its ability to suggest threat & its subtlety !

4.0 out of 5 stars Guilty Pleasure, October 6, 2000

Okay, let's face it. The music to this movie is very cheesy and bizarre. But, it is definately never less than entertaining to listen to. It's my personal favorite among the Argento soundtacks. The use of the electrnic instruments is fantastic (particularly on track 6). At times the flow with the melody can be dreamlike, at other times the music can just be outrageous. A true mix of gothic and rock.

Just make sure you see the movie before you get the soundtrack. This is not for those who find Brittany Spears their cup of tea.
