Essential But Flawed Resource For Beginning Fishermen,

Why essential? Seasoned fishermen keep their hot spots close to the vest. They don't want other people, especially novices, to be in the know about where to go. So what to do? Buy this book if you fish in Clinton, Essex and/or Franklin counties of Northeastern New York and you'll be plugged into contour fishing maps, access information, detailed road maps, inside fishing information, and more. You can't go wrong, unless the hot tips are designed to send beginners on a wild goose chase. Generally I've not found this to be the case, though I have yet to locate the elusive black crappies purportedly lurking in the depths of Floodwood Pond in the Saranac Lakes Wild Forest... Why flawed? The book's organization is baffling. There seems to be little rhyme or reason as to how the geography is divided up and laid out. Making matters worse, there is no index - wait, I just found it on the back outside cover (not generally where you'd look) after owning the book for about twelve months. The other problem is that while lakes and ponds are described in detail, there is no information on the many great streams that are to be found in this area. Finding spots to fish in the rivers, you'll be on your own. But a year into it that's OK with me. I wouldn't want you to know where I just pulled out that lunker brown...
